Rangers return to CBS Radio

The Texas Rangers and CBS Radio reached a multiyear agreement for the team’s English radio play-by-play broadcasts to air exclusively on Dallas-Fort Worth’s 105.3 The Fan beginning next season. The deal brings the Rangers’ radio rights back to CBS for the first time since 2010.  

AUSTIN, TEXAS
NSGA conference includes new event

The National Sporting Goods Association’s inaugural NSGA Innovations Arena will be held in conjunction with next year’s 51st annual NSGA Management Conference and 17th annual Team Dealer Summit, May 3-6. A maximum of 10 companies for each of two sections of the new platform — new products and new retail technology — will be chosen to be featured at the event. The deadline to apply is Jan. 5.

BUFFALO
HarborCenter filling corporate roster

The recently opened HarborCenter development has secured several corporate sponsors. That list includes First Niagara Financial Group, which agreed to a naming-rights deal for the project’s main, 1,800-seat rink. Other partners include Seneca Resorts, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, New Wave Energy, Sahlen’s, New Era Cap Co., Adpro Sports, Coca-Cola, Speed Global and Uncle Bob’s Self Storage.

CHARLOTTE
City seeks hall loan forgiveness

Charlotte is negotiating with Wells Fargo and Bank of America about forgiving a
$19 million loan used to build the NASCAR Hall of Fame, according to a Charlotte Observer report. The hall opened in 2010. The loan has grown to $21 million with interest.

Jackets ‘Steem’ ice between periods
Fans at Nationwide Arena are seeing a replica of Stanley Steemer’s signature cleaning wand attached to the back of the Zamboni cleaning the ice between periods. Stanley Steemer is a long-running corporate partner of the Columbus Blue Jackets and sponsor of one of the team’s Zamboni machines since the club’s 2000-01 inaugural season, but the machine has been revamped this season to feature the branded addition.

DENVER
Denver Sports names new director

Matthew Payne takes over Dec. 1 as executive director of Denver Sports, leading the group charged with bringing sporting events and sports business to town. Payne comes to Denver after almost a decade at the Austin Sports Commission.

Kroenke acquires InterMedia
Denver-based Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which already owns the Outdoor Channel and holds a 50 percent stake in the World Fishing Network, acquired InterMedia Outdoors Holdings, parent company of the Sportsman Channel. Kroenke also acquired 15 outdoor magazines as part of the deal.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS
AFI extends with Armed Forces Bowl

Armed Forces Insurance reached a three-year sponsorship extension with the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. The agreement renews AFI’s commitment to sponsor the Great American Patriot Award, the Armed Forces Adventure Area and the annual postgame concert at the game through the 2016 season. This season’s game is Jan. 2 at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

MILWAUKEE
Stadium district sets higher budget

The Miller Park stadium district approved a $16.1 million operations budget for 2015, an increase of $2.8 million from this year, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report. The increase is chiefly due to higher debt-service payments on the financing and construction of the stadium.

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL
Saints add Daktronics board at new field

Daktronics will design, manufacture and install a video display and scoreboard at the St. Paul Saints’ new field, CHS Field. The main video display will measure about 27.5 feet high by 49 feet wide. The new ballpark for the independent league club opens next year.

PHILADELPHIA
Sixers renew with radio station

The Philadelphia 76ers renewed their broadcast partnership with 97.5 The Fanatic as part of a multiyear agreement. The deal calls for the team to work with the station to create multiplatform programming that will include 10 hour-long Sixers shows throughout the season, a Player Diary feature and a Call of the Game segment.

Fan will kick for $20K prize
The Philadelphia Eagles and Santander Bank have teamed for a promotion that will give one fan the chance to win $20,000 by kicking a 40-yard field goal during halftime of the Eagles game on Sunday. Sixty people won the right to take part in a tryout by correctly answering a series of daily trivia question about Eagles alumni during an eight-week online contest.

PHOENIX
Suns team with MassMutual

The Phoenix Suns agreed to a new multiyear marketing partnership with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. The Suns will team with MassMutual on community initiatives dedicated to educating young adults about the importance of being financially responsible.

Rattlers remain at US Airways Center
The Arena Football League’s Arizona Rattlers reached a multiyear extension that will keep the team at US Airways Center for the foreseeable future. The extension includes an enhanced partnership with the NBA Suns, including coordinating their sales and service efforts.

The team and brewer created a destination spot on the arena’s upper concourse.
PITTSBURGH
Arena adds I.C. Light Ice Box

The Pittsburgh Penguins have partnered with Pittsburgh Brewing Co., brewers of Iron City Beer and I.C. Light, to build and brand the I.C. Light Ice Box at Consol Energy Center. The partnership also calls for print advertising, radio, hospitality and the opportunity for on-site appearances by the Pittsburgh Brewing promotional team.

Radio Barça on TuneIn will have round-the-clock programming.
TuneIn carrying Barça content
TuneIn has signed a licensing agreement with FC Barcelona, making TuneIn the global radio provider of the team. TuneIn will carry FC Barcelona’s Digital Barça audio feed (Radio Barça), allowing listeners around the world free access to all home and away matches. The channel will be available to fans globally in English, Spanish and Catalan.

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND
Games to beat $912M budget
Commonwealth Games organizers said the final cost of hosting the event will be $39.6 million below the total set aside for the games, according to a Press Association report. The budget was set at about $912 million earlier this year, including security costs.

GULLANE, SCOTLAND
Scottish Open lands commitments

The future of the Scottish Open has been secured until 2020 thanks to extended commitments from the title sponsor and Scottish government, according to a BBC report. The government pledged $2.5 million per year, while Aberdeen Asset Management will continue to back the tournament, which is set for July at Gullane Golf Club.

MILAN
Inter Milan signs Toshiba

Inter Milan agreed to a new partnership with Toshiba Medical Systems. The medical imaging equipment company will supply the Serie A team’s medical staff with diagnostic equipment. Toshiba also will receive branding at Inter’s first-team and youth academy training centers in Milan.
