UC calling on architects, engineers

The University of Cincinnati is looking for architects and engineers to plan and design a $70 million overhaul of Fifth Third Arena. UC put out a request for qualifications on Oct. 31 and indicated the design work will have two phases. The renovations would start by April 2016 and finish by November 2017.

Snider donating $5 million to school

Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider, a University of Maryland alum, is donating $5 million to the school through The Snider Foundation. The money will be used to create the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets.

Razorbacks let stubble grow

Male executives in the University of Arkansas athletics department and some head coaches are growing mustaches and beards this month as a tribute to outgoing SEC Commissioner Mike Slive to raise awareness for prostate cancer. The effort, part of the larger Movember movement, includes the hashtag #StachesForSlive.

Private suites part of track project
A $4.2 million capital improvement project at Churchill Downs includes the construction of 20 private, open-air, all-inclusive Winner’s Circle Suites. The project includes a remodeled Trackside Winner’s Circle and the creation of a courtyard that will accommodate temporary premium seating during Derby Week.

MILWAUKEE
Bucks eyeing downtown parcel

The Milwaukee Bucks have their sights set on downtown property now occupied by Journal Communications, the UW-Milwaukee arena and the Milwaukee Theatre as the future home of a new, multipurpose arena, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report. The team also has visions of demolishing their current BMO Harris Bradley Center home and creating a mixed-use development, according to the report.

The Brooklyn Nets MetroCards are available at nine major subway stations.
Nets launch MetroCard promotion
The Brooklyn Nets are promoting a new branded MetroCard. The team is the first pro sports organization to purchase space on the cards. The New York/New Jersey Super Bowl Host Committee previously purchased advertising space on MetroCards to commemorate Super Bowl XLVIII.

PHILADELPHIA
Flyers sign health partners

The Philadelphia Flyers signed a five-year partnership with the Rothman Institute and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. The deal makes the providers the team’s exclusive orthopedic and hospital partners, respectively.

PHOENIX
Phoenix Open proceeds top $7M

The nonprofit Thunderbirds group will distribute more than $7 million to local charities through proceeds raised from the 2014 Waste Management Phoenix Open. This marks the first time since 2008 that more than $7 million was raised for donations and is the third-highest charitable donation in a single year in tournament history.

Suns extend, expand with FM station
The Phoenix Suns and Arizona Sports 98.7 FM signed a new multiyear agreement. The 2014-15 season is now the 39th consecutive season that Arizona Sports will broadcast Suns basketball. New programming will include a postgame show that will also air on the Suns’ new digital streaming network, Rise, available via both Suns.com and the team’s mobile app.

Suns sign Annexus to extension
The Suns and financial services firm Annexus agreed to a multiyear partnership extension. The Annexus logo now appears in front of both the home and away team benches at US Airways Center. Annexus also retains naming rights to the Annexus Practice Facility and the Suns’ practice jerseys, as well as to the Club Annexus hospitality space at the arena.

PORTLAND
Blazers offer Kuni Lexus Club Level

The Portland Trail Blazers and Kuni Lexus of Portland reached a multiyear agreement to establish the Kuni Lexus Club Level for ticket holders on the club level of the Moda Center. Blazers and Kuni Lexus executives unveiled the new partnership at a media event that included a display of 2015 Lexus vehicles.

SEATTLE
Judge dismisses fan’s ticket lawsuit

A Washington federal court judge dismissed a $50 million lawsuit brought by an individual who claimed economic harm by the Seattle Seahawks’ policy of selling playoff tickets only to markets in Washington state and nearby. Nevada resident John Williams, a San Francisco 49ers fan, in April sued the Seahawks, the NFL and Ticketmaster. Williams was unhappy about not being able to buy a ticket to this year’s NFC championship game at CenturyLink Field.

Redskins sign new tech partner

The Washington Redskins reached a new multiyear team sponsor and technology partnership with Huawei Enterprise USA. With the deal, Huawei will provide a Wi-Fi network for the suite level at FedEx Field.

Caps raise $55K to fight cancer
The Washington Capitals and Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation raised $55,050 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s National Capital Area Chapter during the team’s Hockey Fights Cancer Night on Oct. 29. The foundation auctioned autographed Capitals warmup jerseys. Captain Alex Ovechkin’s jersey was the top seller at $4,250.

CSN Mid-Atlantic names DX Agency
CSN Mid-Atlantic hired DX Agency as its social media agency of record for the 2014-15 NBA and NHL seasons. The agency will conduct contests and promotional campaigns around the RSN’s social media content, which will focus on the Washington Wizards and Capitals.

Team opens new stadium lounges
Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin debuted two hospitality areas at the club’s Olympiastadion in Berlin, according to a SoccerEx report. The Beef Grill Club was set up by restaurant group Hasir Gastronomie GmbH, and the Team Lounge is presented by interior designer Who’s Perfect.

COLOGNE, GERMANY
FC Cologne signs Apollo Tyres
Apollo Tyres has agreed to partner with Bundesliga club FC Cologne until the end of the 2014-15 season, according to a SoccerEx report. The tire company will serve as a first-tier partner of the club, with its package including advertising signage at Rhein Energie Stadium.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND
Everton FC reports record profit
Everton FC announced in its annual report that it made a record profit of $45 million in 2013-14 and reduced its debt by more than $27 million, according to a (London) Guardian report. Everton increased gate receipts by $3 million to $30.8 million.

NBA tickets sell out in one hour
Tickets for NBA Global Games London 2015 featuring the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks sold out in record time, giving the NBA its fastest sellout ever in the U.K. Tickets went on sale Oct. 31 at 9 a.m. and sold out before 10 a.m.

Man U signs wellness partner
Manchester United reached a multiyear partnership with IVC to be the club’s first official Chinese wellness partner. IVC, a global nutritional supplement company, enters China with a line of wellness products tailored for Chinese consumers.

WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND
Arena retains TSB Bank name
Wellington’s city council formally signed an agreement with TSB Bank to continue the bank’s brand association and leverage with the TSB Bank Arena. The arena and its adjacent convention center are known as the TSB Bank Arena and Convention Centre.
