Shine adds to its soccer roster by signing Mexico’s Layun

Shine Entertainment Media has signed Mexican national team player Miguel Layun for representation in all areas and is in talks about new endorsement deals for him.

Dario Brignole, Shine’s founder and CEO, will represent Layun. He was formerly represented by Mexican agency SOS Imagen.

Layun, 26, was one of the stars of the Mexican team in the World Cup and has 920,000 Twitter followers and 236,000 followers on Instagram. Layun plays for Club America of the Mexican league, but his deal is up in 2015. “Soon he will return to Europe, a place that he knows very well because he played in Italy and he has family ties,” Brignole said.

Layun’s deal with Puma is up soon as well, and Brignole said he is in talks about a renewal, as well as studying other options. Layun recently negotiated a trading card deal with Panini and shot a commercial for a beverage company in Mexico last week, although Brignole said he could not disclose the brand.

Layun scored four goals in one game for Club America last month, a notable feat especially because he is a defender. Brignole added that Layun speaks Spanish, English and Italian fluently.

“We are focusing on companies that will want to create a relationship for the long term and relate to Layun’s personal and brand values — effectiveness, speed, energy and credibility,” Brignole said.

Brignole founded Miami-based Shine in 2007 after working for 13 years at IMG, where he was the director of the agency’s Hispanic marketing and soccer divisions. His company represented 50 players in the World Cup, including about half of the Mexican national team.

> SPORTS WEST SIGNS OGLETREE: Sports West Football, the firm owned by agent Angelo Wright, has signed St. Louis Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree for representation on the field and off.

Wright, who has been an agent for 25 years, will represent Ogletree. He was formerly represented by SportsTrust Advisors.

Ogletree was a first-round pick in the 2013 draft, No. 30 overall. Wright said he is working on endorsement deals for Ogletree and helping him get more involved in the St. Louis community, as well as the community in his hometown of Newnan, Ga.

“Ogletree has a keen interest in at-risk kids,” Wright said. “We have already been out there. He is at schools in his area visiting at-risk kids.”

Wright represents about 15 NFL and CFL players. During his career, Wright has represented some of the best defensive linemen in the game, including Sam Adams, Ted Washington and Pat Williams.

> CAA SIGNS BILLUPS FOR BROADCAST WORK: Creative Artists Agency has signed recently retired NBA guard Chauncey Billups for broadcast work and negotiated his deal with ESPN.

A team of agents led by Evan Dick is representing him for on-camera work. Billups continues to be managed by agent Andy Miller, founder of ASM, for other endeavors.

Dick recently signed a deal with ESPN for Billups to be a studio analyst, as was first reported by Sports Illustrated.

Billups announced in September that he was retiring from the NBA after 17 seasons. He was the No. 3 overall pick in 1997 and was the NBA Finals MVP in 2004.

> OCTAGON SIGNS MLB PLAYERS: Octagon has signed Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos and Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Gerardo Parra for representation.

At Octagon they will be represented by a team of agents led by Octagon Baseball managing director Alan Nero. The players were both formerly represented by Relativity Baseball.
