Ballpark groundbreaking next week

The Atlanta Braves will hold a groundbreaking for their new ballpark Sept. 16. The ceremony begins the construction phase of the project, putting it on schedule to host fans for Opening Day 2017. The ballpark, at I-75 and I-285, will feature 14 access points.

AUSTIN, TEXAS
New tags in Texas

The University of Texas rolled out its newest license plate designs, which come either in the traditional burnt orange color with white letters or in black with white letters. The designs bear the “Hook ’em Horns” motto.

BALTIMORE
Ravens partner to ‘Man Up!’

The Baltimore Ravens reached a three-year partnership with House of Ruth Maryland, which helps victims of intimate partner violence and their children. The Baltimore Ravens will donate $600,000 to the House of Ruth Maryland and will lead a “Man Up!” campaign to help raise awareness.

BANGOR, MAINE
Credit union aligns with Maine athletics

Maine Savings Federal Credit Union announced a gift of at least $50,000 to the University of Maine athletics department, according to a Bangor Daily News report. As part of a five-year agreement with the school, each transaction using the credit union’s Black Bear Debit Card will result in a donation to the university’s Black Bear Fund.

BLACKSBURG, VA.
Virginia Tech signs bank sponsor

Richmond, Va.-based Union First Market Bank and Virginia Tech entered into a multiyear partnership that includes a sponsorship of VT athletics along with a university gift and a faculty endowment. It is the bank’s first athletic sponsorship. The sponsorship was brokered by IMG and includes a presenting sponsorship of a gate and concourse plaza at Lane Stadium.

BOULDER, COLO.
Buffs marketing with Toyota

The Denver Toyota Dealers Association signed a marketing deal with the University of Colorado that begins with the football season and runs through the 2017 athletic year. The automaker will have a large on-site presence at Balch Fieldhouse, a family-friendly area inside Folsom Field.

BUFFALO
Bills, partners donating soup

Four upstate New York food banks will be the recipients of donations being arranged this NFL season through Tops Markets, Campbell Soup and the Buffalo Bills. Campbell’s, a league sponsor, will donate 20 cans of soup for every tackle made by the Buffalo Bills this year. The program is part of the “Tackling Hunger with the Buffalo Bills” initiative.

CLEVELAND
Browns asking for fan input

The Cleveland Browns are launching a series of fan engagement initiatives, allowing the public to help decide issues such as the color scheme for the end zones at FirstEnergy Stadium, according to a (Cleveland) Plain Dealer report. The two end zone options are brown block lettering with an orange background or orange block lettering with a brown background.

Indians extend PDC with Captains
The Class A Lake County Captains of the Midwest League and the Cleveland Indians reached an extension to their player development contract. The Captains, who play in Eastlake, Ohio, have been affiliated with the Indians since 1991, when the club was in Columbus, Ga.

The arena’s main displays will be 33 feet wide and more than 12 feet tall.

Daktronics installing new displays
The University of Maryland picked Daktronics to design, manufacture and install new displays in both the Xfinity Center and Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium. Xfinity Center, formerly Comcast Center, will have a new center-hung display, and the football stadium will have new ribbon displays, the main one measuring 3.5 feet tall by 323 feet wide.

DETROIT
Arena district plan moves forward

Ilitch Holdings executives began briefing Detroit-based contractors on how they can participate in the arena district development, according to a Detroit Free Press report. The Ilitch family’s Olympia Development has a goal of using 30 percent Detroit-based firms as contractors for the arena district and hiring 51 percent of construction workers from among Detroit residents.

HOUSTON
Astros extend PDCs with teams

The Houston Astros extended their player development contracts with the Class A Quad Cities River Bandits of the Midwest League and the Class A Advanced Lancaster JetHawks of the California League. Both contracts are two-year extensions through the 2016 season.

MIAMI
Dolphins fill out menu boards

The Miami Dolphins are adding new food options to enhance the fan experience at Sun Life Stadium. They include Bokampers MVP Club, Bru’s Room Sports Grill, BurgerFi, Cold Stone Creamery, Cuban Guys, Michelle Bernstein’s Crumb on Parchment and Sushi Maki. The Dolphins named Cold Stone Creamery the official ice cream of the team.

Law firm sponsoring HMS Friday events
The Ticket Clinic law firm will be the presenting sponsor of Homestead-Miami Speedway’s remaining “Fast Lane Friday” events — Oct. 3, Nov. 21 and Dec. 5 — as well as a promotional partner of Ford Championship Weekend Nov. 14-16.

PHILADELPHIA
Campaign includes ‘Silver Linings’ actor

The Philadelphia Eagles’ new anthemic campaign for the start of the NFL season is up and “Silver Linings Playbook” star Bradley Cooper does the voice-over. A two-minute version of the work from the team and agency 160over90 is on the team’s flyeaglesfly.com website.

PORTLAND
Nike, UP sign 8-year extension

The University of Portland agreed on an eight-year extension with Nike to be the university’s athletic footwear and athletic apparel supplier through the 2021-22 school year, according to a (Portland) Oregonian report. The two parties signed their first deal in 2002.

SANTA CLARA, CALIF.
Niners extend U.S. Bank deal

The San Francisco 49ers extended their sponsorship deal with U.S. Bank with a multiyear agreement that will see U.S. Bank remain the team’s official consumer banking partner. U.S. Bank will have a presence at Levi’s Stadium, including providing all on-site ATMs. The bank also will feature 49ers-branded products and promotions at its branches.

STATE COLLEGE, PA.

Penn State, Dunkin’ partner up
Dunkin’ Donuts of Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania signed a partnership with Penn State University and will be the preferred coffee of the football team this season. Dunkin’ Donuts’ “Ultimate Tailgate Package” includes PSU-themed beverage cups, boxes, a themed Box O’ Joe and PSU-themed gift cards.

TOLEDO, OHIO
UT spending with Cavaliers

The University of Toledo reached a two-year agreement with the Cleveland Cavaliers to become the team’s first university sponsor, according to a (Cleveland) Plain Dealer report. The school will spend about $100,000 a year in exchange for signs and in-game digital messages at Quicken Loans Arena.

‘Largest Golf Outing’ raises $875,000

Billy Casper Golf’s World’s Largest Golf Outing raised more than $875,000, a record high, for Wounded Warrior Project on Aug. 11. More than 12,000 golfers, including 439 wounded service men and women, played in the event at 110-plus BCG-managed courses in 28 states. Billy Casper Golf is headquartered in Vienna, Va.

WASHINGTON, D.C.
Nationals OK Suns extension

The Washington Nationals and the Hagerstown (Md.) Suns agreed to a new two-year player development contract that will run through the end of the 2016 season. The Class A Suns of the South Atlantic League and the Nationals began their affiliation before the 2007 season.

WHEELING, W.VA.
Fans can pick Nailers logo

The Wheeling Nailers, ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are inviting fans to help choose a logo for the center circle on the ice at WesBanco Arena this season. Fans can vote for which logo they would like via the team’s social media accounts. The winning logo will be revealed Sept. 15 when the ice is installed.

AUGSBURG, GERMANY
Augsburg renews with sponsors
Bundesliga side FC Augsburg renewed its partnership with automotive parts retailer Reinhard Kastner for another season. In addition, local utility provider Stadtwerke Augsburg extended its partnership with the club for a further three years.

BATH, ENGLAND
Brewer partners with Bath Rugby
West Country brewer Bath Ales is on board as an official partner of Premiership side Bath Rugby ahead of the upcoming season. The two-year agreement is the biggest partnership deal the brewer has ever committed to and signals a significant investment by the business. Bath Ales’ branding will be included on the team’s shorts throughout the season.

DUBLIN
Leinster extends bank deal
Bank of Ireland extended its Pro12 rugby side Leinster sponsorship through June 2019. The new five-year deal includes exclusive branding of all playing and training kits for Leinster and will see Bank of Ireland make an additional six-figure investment, over five years, to develop the amateur game.

EMPOLI, ITALY
Promoted team gets shirt deal
Newly promoted Serie A club Empoli secured a shirt sponsorship from online banking brand Bancadinamica for the 2014-15 season, according to a SoccerEx report. Bancadinamica’s logos will appear on the back of the team’s kit. No financial details were announced.

MAINZ, GERMANY
Team signs glass producer
Bundesliga club FSV Mainz agreed to a new partnership with special glass producer Schott AG for the 2014-15 season. The company will be present on LED boards during home games at Coface Arena.

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
Victory lines up new training
A-League side Melbourne Victory confirmed Community Training Initiatives as its joint principal partner. The company will be featured on the front of the home shirt for the next two seasons. Community Training Initiatives helps people in trades get their skills and knowledge certified.

The home of AC Milan seats more than 80,000 and will be home to the 2016 Champions League final.

Champions League final scheduled
The final of the Champions League in 2016 will be played at the new and renovated San Siro stadium in Milan, according to a Mundo Deportivo report. San Siro hosted the Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Valencia in 2001 but has not held a final since then.

PERTH, AUSTRALIA
Wildcats counting on BDO
Australian National Basketball League side Perth Wildcats agreed to a partnership with accounting firm BDO to become a gold partner of the team for the next three years. BDO branding will be displayed in game at Perth Arena.

PERTHSHIRE, SCOTLAND
Social media no-nos at Ryder Cup

Ryder Cup organizers introduced a ban on uploading photographs to the Internet via social media during the event at Gleneagles this month, according to a (London) Telegraph report. No audio or video capture is permitted during the six-day event. The PGA of America and the PGA European Tour want to make sure their image is intact, and players are not distracted, according to the report.

Reds, St. George Bank extend deal
Queensland Rugby and St. George Bank extended their partnership for a further three years. St. George will embark on its second three-year term as naming-rights sponsor with Super Rugby side Queensland Reds.

RIO DE JANEIRO
Fluminense aligns with Sporting KC
Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City reached a formal partnership with Brasileiro club Fluminense, according to an Inside World Football report. The two clubs will share philosophies, marketing strategies, business practices, and players.

TURIN, ITALY
Torino FC, Suzuki extend sponsorship
Serie A side Torino FC extended its sponsorship deal with the Italian branch of Japanese automotive brand Suzuki for an extra year. The Suzuki logos will remain on the chest of the team’s shirts for the remainder of the 2014-15 season.

Juventus dressing up with Trussardi
Fashion company Trussardi will continue to be Juventus FC’s official formal suit supplier for the next two seasons. The blue pinstripe suits are designed by Levriero.
