BitPay reached a deal with Georgia Tech that will allow for Bitcoin payments for the school’s football and basketball programs. The agreement was brokered by IMG College.

BUFFALO
Bills sign official cheese partner
The Buffalo Bills now have an official cheese: Yancey’s Fancy. The company’s artisan cheese will be served in various dishes at Ralph Wilson Stadium’s concession stands, suites and club seat sections. The deal also includes LED ribbon board signage.

CHICAGO
Sox open social media lounge

The Chicago White Sox last week opened a social media lounge at U.S. Cellular Field, according to a Crain’s Chicago Business report. The section features seating, cellphone charging stations, and multiple televisions streaming White Sox social media content and showing the game.

Rooftop owners curb political donations
The quarrel between the Chicago Cubs and nearby rooftop owners over signs at Wrigley Field remains hot, but the rooftop owners’ political contributions have cooled off this year, according to a Chicago Tribune report. Rooftop clubs and their owners have made just five donations to politicians totaling $5,550, a sharp decline from last year’s total, which exceeded $80,000.

Olympic museum group signs USOC deal

Supporters of the proposed U.S. Olympic Museum in Colorado Springs signed a 30-year agreement with the U.S. Olympic Committee that will allow the venue to showcase Olympic artifacts and displays, according to a Colorado Springs Gazette report. The museum’s cost is estimated at $59 million.

Jackets get new wireless system
Mobilitie and the Columbus Blue Jackets installed a high-density Wi-Fi system at Nationwide Arena. The fan-friendly network encompasses 263 access points strategically placed throughout the facility and will also support high-speed connectivity in all of the arena’s press facilities, locker rooms, meeting spaces and offices.

Hall of fame moving cars, artifacts
The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America began the task of moving its collection of cars and racing artifacts from its base in Novi, Mich., to storage in Daytona Beach, according to a Daytona Beach News-Journal report. The hall will eventually relocate near the Daytona Rising project at Daytona International Speedway.

ERIE, PA.
Arena rehab includes new HD board

A new HD scoreboard will be the center of attention at the newly remodeled Erie Insurance Arena. The 8-by-15-foot Daktronics scoreboard will feature video, animations, statistics and advertisements. The arena is home to the NBA D-League Erie BayHawks and the Erie Otters junior hockey team.

Patriots suing Bacardi

The New England Patriots are suing Bacardi for breach of contract after the rum maker allegedly backed out of a 10-year, multimillion-dollar deal that included plans for a pavilion on the grounds of Gillette Stadium, according to a Boston Globe report. The Patriots said they likely will not have time to secure another liquor sponsor before the season. A Bacardi spokeswoman said the company disagreed with the claims and would defend its position.

JACKSONVILLE
Jags to use Skyview for radio programs

The Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to a multiyear deal with Skyview Networks. The Jaguars will use Skyview’s latest application release, AdView Inventory Management, for its full menu of radio programs.

KANSAS CITY
Sporting KC signs marketing partner

Sporting Kansas City named local ad agency VML as its official marketing partner in a three-year deal. VML will not be classified as Sporting KC’s agency of record because the club’s in-house marketing team will continue producing all creative. Instead, VML is charged with finding ways to improve the club’s digital approach.

LAS VEGAS
Stadium plan includes air conditioning

Renderings for a proposed 24,000-seat MLS stadium in Las Vegas include a vinyl retractable roof and air-conditioning ducts every three rows in the stands, according to a Las Vegas Sun report. All seats in the proposed venue could be shaded. The plans have not been finalized and could be altered before Findlay Sports & Entertainment Group and developer Cordish Cos. go before the Las Vegas City Council on Aug. 20.

LOS ANGELES
Kings change flagship radio station

The Los Angeles Kings agreed to a five-year deal that makes KABC-AM the team’s new flagship radio station, according to a Los Angeles Times report. The Kings will be the only sports property on KABC. The team’s previous radio home was KEIB-AM.

NEW YORK
‘Shipping Wars’ features NLL effort

The National Lacrosse League was featured on a recent episode of the A&E series “Shipping Wars.” In the show, the shippers had a tight timeline to transport the league’s championship trophy, MVP trophy and crates of championship merchandise from the league offices in Manhattan to the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y., for the league’s championship series this year.

OAKLAND
A’s, city settle disputed 10-year lease

The Oakland A’s long-disputed 10-year lease to remain at O.co Coliseum was settled last week after team co-owner Lew Wolff accepted most of the changes made by city officials, according to a San Francisco Chronicle report. The team is expected to pay Oakland and Alameda County about $20 million over the next 10 years.

MVPs surpass 7,000 service hours

The Magic Volunteer Program contributed 7,022 hours of community service for the 2013-14 Orlando Magic season, surpassing the goal of 6,000 hours as an organization for the seventh straight year. More than 250 employees participated in numerous events throughout the year as part of the program.

PHILADELPHIA
Wings planning relocation

The NLL Philadelphia Wings are planning to move out of the city to a new market. A source familiar with the situation said the team is in discussions to relocate to a New England state. Any move would require league approval. Fans that have placed deposits or paid in full for the 2015 season will be issued a full refund, the team said.

Lacrosse tourney to generate $2.6M
Bucks County is expecting a $2.6 million economic impact after hosting the Patriot Games Lacrosse Tournament this month, an event the county has held seven consecutive years. The two-day tournament brought about 8,000 people to the area, including 3,200 players ages 8 to 18.

The Pittsburgh Penguins reached a new three-year partnership with Central Atlantic Toyota to include official car status for the Toyota Camry. The deal also includes camera-visible signage, a Camry-branded airship, broadcast radio, print and digital signage.

SDSU building new hoops facility

Work on San Diego State University’s new $14.5 million basketball practice facility began this month, with an estimated completion date of August 2015, according to a San Diego Union-Tribune report. The report cited a California State University Committee on Institutional Advancement agenda as saying the facility’s proposed name is the Jeff Jacobs JAM Center.

Troubled team dropped from league
Spain’s top basketball league will feature 17 teams in the coming season after the league decided to drop Bilbao Basket for economic reasons and not fill its place with a club from the second-division LEB, according to an El Periodico report. The team has no sponsors and debt of approximately $8.1 million.

Flybe extends with Exeter City
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, extended its shirt sponsorship with Exeter City FC for a 12th consecutive year. Exeter plays in Football League Two, the fourth tier in the English football league system.

HONG KONG
Cricket tourney canceled again
The fear of jeopardizing the financial health of Hong Kong cricket forced organizers of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes to cancel the tournament for the second year running, according to a South China Morning Post report. Hong Kong Cricket Association Chairman Mike Walsh cited as reasons for the cancellation the lack of financial support from the government as well as from the corporate sector.

Golf group adopts USGA system
The Hong Kong Golf Association adopted the U.S. Golf Association’s Golf Handicap and Information Network for its more than 15,000 subscribers. The Hong Kong
association’s responsibilities include selecting Hong Kong national teams, junior and elite player development, grassroots initiatives, and conducting international and domestic golf events.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND
Liverpool partners with gaming site
Liverpool FC and Scandinavian online gaming site ComeOn agreed to a two-year partnership, running through the 2015-16 season. ComeOn will use Liverpool platforms to offer fans in Norway, Sweden and Finland promotions and gaming prices on Liverpool matches.

MANCHESTER
Man U signs new global partner
Manchester United agreed to a multiyear sponsorship deal with international food brand Nissin to become a global partner of the team. Nissin will produce Nissin and Manchester United branded food products for sale worldwide, and Nissin branding will be visible on stadium perimeter boards for matches at Old Trafford.

Melbourne FC signs Akambo
Australian Football League club Melbourne FC agreed to a three-year partnership with Akambo Private Wealth. The deal has extensions to Melbourne FC’s supporter group and involvement with the club’s fundraising initiatives.

MUNICH
1860 Munich re-signs beer partner
Second Bundesliga club 1860 Munich reached an agreement with beer partner Hacker-Pschorr to continue their nearly 20-year partnership, according to a TZ report. The club’s management had been looking for a new beer partner after Hacker-Pschorr previously announced it was planning to drastically reduce its sponsorship.

NANJING, CHINA
City prepares for Youth Olympics
More than 3,700 athletes from 204 countries and regions will be taking part in the Summer Youth Olympic Games to be held in the country next month, according to a Xinhua report. The Nanjing Organizing Committee for the 2014 Youth Olympics said that 3,787 athletes had completed registration procedures by the July 18 deadline.

Race entry fees benefit hospital
A total of $6,000 was raised by entry fees in the fourth edition of the Phnom Penh International Half Marathon this month, according to a Phnom Penh Post report. The money was donated to Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital by the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia.

2018 committee president resigns
KIM JIN-SUN
Kim Jin-sun stepped down as head of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics organizing committee, according to a Reuters report. Kim, 67, had been president of the committee since 2011 and was scheduled to fill a term that ran until October 2015. No reason was given for his decision.

TORONTO
Games venues behind schedule
Construction of six venues for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Games is running behind schedule, according to a Canadian Press report. The $145 million Tim Hortons Field was slated to open this month, a year before it was to host the events’ men’s and women’s soccer competitions, but was delayed. It now is scheduled to open later this year for the CFL Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and all the designated venues for the Games are due to be set by the time that competition begins next July.

WARSAW, POLAND
Legia Warsaw, Pepsi extend deal
Polish football club Legia Warsaw extended its sponsorship with Pepsi by three years, according to an Inside World Football report. Under the deal, the company’s Gatorade brand will become the official sponsor of the Polish club’s Football Academy youth project.
