Cubs revise renovation cost
The Chicago Cubs last week said Wrigley Field upgrades will now cost $375 million, an increase of $75 million over previous estimates. The team has put a renewed focus on three aspects of revenue generation: constructing hundreds of new seats, five more premium clubs and seven new outfield signs.
Captains cooking ‘Dime Dogs’
The Lake County Captains and Five Star Brand Meats will present Dime Dog Night on Wednesday at Classic Park. Hot dogs will be 10 cents each, with a five-wiener minimum. Five Star has been the official “meat in tube form” provider for the Class A team since the club’s inception in 2003.
AFN airing MLL games overseas
American Forces Network will broadcast the MLL All-Star Game (June 26) and the MLL Championship Game (Aug. 23), making the games available to Americans deployed overseas. The championship game will be played at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on the campus of Kennesaw State University.

Formula E heading to LBC
The FIA Formula E Championship announced that round seven of its inaugural season will be held on the streets of Long Beach. The Long Beach ePrix, as it will be titled, will take place April 4 and will form one of 10 races — and one of two in the U.S. alongside Miami — taking place across the globe.

Storm Chasers, Werner reach extension
The Omaha Storm Chasers and Werner Enterprises reached a new ballpark naming-rights contract extension, keeping the name Werner Park through the 2020 season. The early extension comes in year four of the original five-year agreement reached in 2010.
The Orlando Magic is offering the opportunity to win $100,000 for accurately predicting the players to be drafted in spots 1-14 of the NBA draft. The promotion closes June 22. “Guess the Draft Order 2014” is open to Florida residents 18 and older who live within 75 miles of Orlando.

Phestival raises $900K for ALS efforts
The Philadelphia Phillies had their most successful Phillies Phestival ever, raising $904,732 at the team’s annual autograph and auction party held to support research into the fatal and progressive neuromuscular disorder ALS. More than 7,000 attended this year’s Phestival at Citizens Bank Park.
Gottlieb plaque installed at school
Former Philadelphia Warriors owner and coach Eddie Gottlieb was honored with the unveiling of a historic plaque bearing his name, 35 years after his death. The plaque was put up on the front lawn of South Philadelphia High School, where Gottlieb played basketball and graduated. Gottlieb was one of the founders of the NBA.
To commemorate Phoenix International Raceway’s 50th anniversary, the Phoenix Symphony will have a special performance called “The Sound of Speed” on Nov. 6. The performance will also feature appearances by NASCAR hall of famer Rusty Wallace as a guest conductor and “The Dukes of Hazzard” star Tom Wopat.
TS Sports completing ASU projects
TS Sports completed its Arizona State University softball and soccer projects and plans to install a new LED system at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Previously the training facility for the Oakland Athletics, Phoenix Municipal Stadium will be the new home of ASU baseball in 2015.
Chargers begin variable pricing
The San Diego Chargers will implement variable pricing on single-game tickets next season, according to a San Diego Union-Tribune report. In addition to paying the same price as last year, Chargers season-ticket holders will pay a lower price than the total face value of tickets, according to the report.
Sharks hold ticket prices steady
The San Jose Sharks told season-ticket holders that prices will remain unchanged for the 2014-15 season, according to a San Jose Mercury News report. It is the first time since before the start of the 2009-10 season that the Sharks have not increased season-ticket prices. There was a 2.4 percent increase last year.

IIHF awards 2018 championship
The International Ice Hockey Federation awarded the 2018 World Championship to Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark. The Danish bid beat out a bid from Riga, Latvia. The proposed dates are May 4-20, 2018. Denmark will be a first-time host.

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund extended its partnership with regional bank Sparda-Bank West for another three years, until the end of the 2016-17 season.
Promotion, then financial hurdle
Spanish second division club Eibar earned promotion to La Liga with a victory on May 24 but is facing financial challenges that could threaten its move up in league standing next season, according to an EFE report. The club must raise extra share capital of $2.3 million by Aug. 6 or face being forced down to the country’s third tier of play.
DOSB to remodel headquarters
The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will start construction and remodeling of parts of its headquarters in Frankfurt this summer. The DOSB will move to a temporary location in Neu-Isenburg. It will leave its current headquarters on June 18.

Marathon shifts for better weather
The 2015 Hong Kong Marathon will be staged on Jan. 25 so runners can benefit from the generally favorable weather conditions, according to a South China Morning Post report. The race has been held in February the past three years. This year, 30 runners were taken to the hospital, seven fewer than in 2013.
Voters say no to Olympics
Krakow’s hopes of hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics were dealt a fatal blow in a referendum when a majority of the Polish city’s residents voted against making a bid for the Games, according to a Reuters report. Almost 70 percent of voters were against the plan.

Bundesliga club Bayern Munich retained the top spot on Brand Finance Football’s annual study ranking the world’s top 50 football brands. Bayern Munich’s value was estimated at $896 million, ahead of Real Madrid ($768 million), Manchester United ($739 million), FC Barcelona ($622 million) and Manchester City ($510 million). Bayern Munich unseated Man U atop the ranking in 2013.
Philips will light up Allianz Arena
Philips agreed to a three-year partnership with Bayern Munich making the company an official sponsor and lighting partner of the club. The deal also calls for Allianz Arena to receive a dynamic LED lighting system.
Players will sport Giorgio Armani
Bayern Munich players will be wearing suits made by Giorgio Armani starting next season as part of a new three-year deal, according to a Reuters report. The club said suits will be worn at official club functions and when the team travels.

Train delivered ahead of Cup
A second China-made electric multiple unit (EMU), a type of high-speed train, arrived in Brazil last month, according to a Xinhua report. EMU Project Manager Zhao Yao said the train was delivered ahead of the contracted delivery time in order to ensure the rail system’s operation before the opening of the World Cup.
Game at new stadium postponed
Singapore postponed a highly anticipated football match against archrival Malaysia over concerns that the country’s new sports complex will not be ready to host the game, according to an AFP report. Officials said there was no new date yet for the game, which was planned for Aug. 8 as the inaugural football match at the 55,000-seat National Stadium.
Valencia’s Adidas deal starts July 1
La Liga club Valencia and Adidas agreed to a deal that will see the company become the club’s kit partner as of July 1. The brand will produce Valencia’s playing and training kit and also will partner on the club’s retail and distribution platforms.
