ATLANTA
Braves extend with radio rights holder
The Atlanta Braves and Dickey Broadcasting Co. reached a multiyear extension for Dickey to remain the Braves’ exclusive radio rights holder. Games will continue to air on WCNN-AM and will move from WNNX-FM to a stronger signal on all-news WYAY-FM.

COLUMBUS
Crew signs banking partner
Heartland Bank reached a sponsorship deal with the Columbus Crew to become the MLS team’s preferred banking partner. Activation of the deal will include a Crew-branded affinity card.

Stadium addition taking shape
New concrete walls are going up on the north end of Spartan Stadium, part of a 50,000-square-foot two-story addition, according to a Lansing State Journal report. The $24.5 million project at the home of Michigan State University football broke ground in July, and the goal is to wrap it up by July of next year.

FORT COLLINS, COLO.
CSU picks Mortenson for stadium

Mortenson Construction was selected as the lead contractor to build the proposed on-campus football stadium at Colorado State University. Mortenson was construction manager of Coors Field and the Pepsi Center. CSU’s board of governors must still approve the $226.5 million plan for a new stadium.

GREEN BAY
Packers close hall, plan new store

The Green Bay Packers’ Hall of Fame will close this month to make way for construction of a new Packers Pro Shop, according to a Green Bay Press-Gazette report. The $140.5 million project, paid for by the team without public money, began in March. The hall of fame is scheduled to reopen in a new location in April 2015.

KANSAS CITY
Donations = BP at Kauffman

Royals Charities and the Kansas City Royals grounds crew are hosting the second annual Home Runs for Hunger event at Kauffman Stadium on Friday and Saturday. Fans who donate canned food items or make a cash donation to Harvesters-The Community Food Network will have the opportunity to take batting practice on the field and shag fly balls in the outfield.

Mazeroski items for sale at auction
Hunt Auctions will present a selection of materials from the personal collection of Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame second baseman Bill Mazeroski on Saturday at the 10th annual Live Auction at Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. Among the items are Mazeroski’s 1960 World Series Game 7 home uniform and his spikes from that game.

Heat partners with Acordis

The Miami Heat signed a multiyear partnership with Acordis International Corp. Acordis, a
business and technology solutions firm, will manage technology needs, including printing and copying, for the team. Acordis will also receive LED and courtside signs at Heat home games, radio exposure and hospitality elements.

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL
Wolves, city to share project costs

The Minnesota Timberwolves and city officials reached a deal to split the cost of a $97 million renovation of the city-owned Target Center, according to a (Minneapolis) Star Tribune report. The agreement, pending City Council approval, would commit $48.5 million in city sales taxes to the project.

MSFA to pay for stadium parcel
The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority agreed to pay $17.1 million for a key piece of land near the proposed $975 million Vikings stadium, according to a (Minneapolis) Star Tribune report. MSFA officials said that proximity to mass transit and parking is key to the stadium’s success, and the agreement eliminates a final hurdle in the land-acquisition process before construction begins.

MSG, SAP sign long-term partnership

The Madison Square Garden Co. and SAP reached a new, long-term technology and marketing partnership, making SAP a signature partner of MSG. SAP will become the naming partner of the Madison Concourse and presenting partner for the arena’s Defining Moments and Garden 366 exhibits.

ORLANDO
Magic, Fox extend TV contract

The Orlando Magic and Fox Sports Florida agreed to a multiyear contract extension, giving the station the exclusive regional television rights to the team. The television and marketing partnership began between the team and then-Sunshine Network with the inception of the Magic franchise in 1989.

PHOENIX
Coyotes sign Levy to 15-year deal

The Phoenix Coyotes signed a new 15-year agreement with Levy Restaurants to serve as the exclusive restaurant partner for Jobing.com Arena. Levy plans to broaden the concessions offerings at the arena and add menu items derived from the local food scene. Levy replaces Aramark as arena concessionaire.

Safeway opens at PIR campground
Safeway will operate an on-site grocery store in the camping area at Phoenix International Raceway this fall beginning with the AdvoCare 500 this weekend. Safeway will be the official grocery partner of the track. The 17,200-square-foot store is designed to look and feel like one of Safeway’s 115 stores throughout Arizona.

Valero extends bowl rights to 2019
Valero Energy Corp. extended its title sponsorship of the Valero Alamo Bowl for an additional six years through the 2019 game. A sponsor of the Alamo Bowl since its inception in 1993, Valero became the title sponsor in 2007 with an original three-year commitment followed by a four-year extension for the 2010-13 games.

SANTA CLARA, CALIF.
Solar energy part of stadium plan

Solar panels will supply a portion of Levi’s Stadium’s electricity, according to a San Francisco Chronicle report. The 1,150 panels will have a peak output of 375 kilowatts. The installation was designed by NRG Energy with panels supplied by San Jose-based SunPower Corp.

BARCELONA
Barca signs Saudi Arabia firm

FC Barcelona reached a sponsorship agreement with Samba Financial Group for an initial period of three years. Samba will be an official sponsor and official bank of FC Barcelona in Saudi Arabia. It is the first alliance between FC Barcelona and an organization from Saudi Arabia.

GUANGXI ZHUANG, CHINA
Liverpool opens youth academy

Liverpool FC launched its first full-time coaching program in China. Liverpool and the Guilin International Football Academy will operate a complex featuring full-size fields, practice areas, classrooms, a gym, lecture theater and medical facilities. The academy will be a development center for young players.

LONDON
Hotspur considers NFL option

Tottenham Hotspur is working on plans for a new 65,000-seat multipurpose stadium that would allow the club to share the facility with a London-based NFL franchise, according to a (London) Daily Mail report. Tottenham earlier this year dumped original designs for a 56,000-seat stadium. The team appointed Populous to design a bigger ground allowing an easy switch from soccer to the NFL.

DHL signs with Rugby World Cup
DHL will be the official logistics partner of Rugby World Cup 2015. Twickenham Stadium will be the championship site.

MANCHESTER
Man U mulls massive Nike deal

Manchester United was on the brink of signing a $485 million kit sponsorship deal with Nike, according to multiple media reports. The contract would equal the Premier League record deal between Chelsea and Adidas signed earlier this year.

TOKYO
2020 Olympic stadium resized

Japan is scaling down the main stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after an uproar from some architects who believe that it is too big and expensive, according to an AP report. Sports Minister Hakubun Shimomura told lawmakers the stadium would cost $3.1 billion. The 80,000-seat stadium had been billed as costing $1.34 billion.
