White House welcomes back the Lakers
President Barack Obama receives an autographed championship flag and basketball from members of the Los Angeles Lakers, from left — Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, Ron Artest, Sasha Vujacic, Luke Walton and Derek Fisher — during an event Dec. 13 at the Boys & Girls Club at THEARC. The Lakers volunteered on projects at the club before being honored by the president for their 2010 NBA championship.


Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan waits with his college basketball coach, former University of North Carolina coach Dean Smith, before being inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place at halftime at a Bobcats game Dec. 14 at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte.


Steel City salute
The Pittsburgh Steelers honored race team owner and Pittsburgh native Chip Ganassi before their game Dec. 12 at Heinz Field. Ganassi, accompanied by his daughter Tessa, received a Steelers jersey from team President Art Rooney II in honor of the 19 victories his race teams won in 2010. The jersey bears the same number as Ganassi's championship-winning IndyCar.


Dolphins take in 'Lombardi'

Modell dinner honors
Receiving awards at the 43rd annual Modell Memorial Dinner to benefit the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America were, from left: MLS Commissioner Don Garber (Dick Schaap Excellence in Sports Award), AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf (Sportsman of the Year) and The Rampart Group President Robert Morris (Man of the Year). The event was Dec. 9 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers.


They might be Giants, and champions
MLB Productions and the San Francisco Giants premiered two films Dec. 2 celebrating the Giants' World Series championship: the Official 2010 World Series film, distributed by Shout Factory, and the Giants season film, "The Magic Inside," distributed by A&E Home Entertainment. Both DVDs were produced by MLB Productions. More than 5,000 employees, guests and celebrities enjoyed the $4.3 million carnival-themed Go Daddy holiday party at Chase Field in Phoenix.
