Gatorade bowling at stadium
The Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America signed an agreement with PepsiCo that will make Gatorade G2 both an official sponsor and the official thirst quencher of the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open. ESPN will televise the June 30 finals from midfield at Cowboys Stadium. 


New AT&T antenna system installed
AT&T Wireless installed a new antenna system at Turner Field. AT&T said the new system is not a response to complaints, but rather an effort to improve service inside what can be a challenging wireless environment during games, according to a report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Falcons help set P.E. world record
The Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation set the Guinness World Record for the largest virtual physical education class. A total of 2,288 elementary and middle school children from across the state of Georgia participated in the event at the Georgia Dome earlier this month.

IU aquatics goes big with new board
Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center has a new scoring, timing and video display system from Daktronics. Highlighting the recent installation at Indiana University is a 15-by-37-foot-wide video board. The board can operate as an independent display showing single large images or can be divided into multiple zones.


New Era producing for CFL
New Era Cap Co. struck a three-year deal to produce headwear for the Canadian Football League beginning next month. The CFL deal follows an announcement last month that Buffalo-based New Era would be the official on-field cap maker for the NFL beginning in 2012.


Cavs extend CrowdWave agreement

The Cleveland Cavaliers and CrowdWave reached a three-season extension of their agreement for CrowdWave’s interactive game system and technology. CrowdWave debuted at Quicken Loans Arena for the Cavaliers’ playoff run last season, providing fans with mass-participation, crowd-controlled games and polls.


ISC secures gold LEED status

International Speedway Corp.’s headquarters secured gold-level LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The 180,000-square-foot building was completed in 2009. It was designed to meet LEED standards, but ISC executives spent a year working to secure the LEED certificate.


New York Life goes distance with UConn
New York Life began a seasonlong sponsorship of the University of Connecticut men’s and women’s basketball teams. New York Life’s support will include an on-court logo for the season along with full game-day sponsorship on Tuesday, when the UConn women will host Florida State at the XL Center.


Biennial State Games of America awarded

The National Congress of State Games awarded the 2013 State Games of America to Hershey-Harrisburg, Pa. State Games of America is a biennial Olympic-style sports event featuring competition between medal winners from the 31 State Games across the nation. The 2011 SGA will be held in San Diego, Aug. 4-7.


Heat start retail store within Facebook
The Miami Heat launched the Shop HEAT Facebook store, becoming the first NBA team to launch a retail store within the social networking site. The new store will feature merchandise selected to appeal directly to the demographic of the team’s Facebook fans.


Flyers go long for mobile app spot

A group of Philadelphia Flyers players donned Rip Van Winkle-esque beards for a Verizon Wireless commercial shot earlier this month at Wells Fargo Center. In the commercial, the Flyers decided not to shave until they lose a game — then go the whole season without losing: hence the long beards. The commercial was shot to promote the NHL GameCenter Live mobile app for Verizon subscribers.


These Flyers commercial stars could easily
trade sticks for guitars.

Phillies release cookbook
The Philadelphia Phillies are putting their cooking skills on display for charity with the newly released "From Our Home to Yours, A Collection of Phillies Recipes." The cookbook, presented by the Phillies Wives and Phillies Charities Inc., features more than 30 recipes and anecdotes from the players, coaching staff and their families.


Timbers' jerseys, plane unveiled
The Portland Timbers and Alaska Airlines, the official jersey sponsor of the club, unveiled the team's Adidas uniforms, training wear and apparel line that will be featured during the club's inaugural MLS season next year. Alaska Airlines also unveiled a specially themed Boeing 737 aircraft emblazoned with "Proud Jersey Sponsor" alongside the team logo and a Timbers scarf.


‘Wide Open’ celebrates All-Star Weekend

Raleigh leaders unveiled plans for NHL All-Star Wide Open, a three-day event in partnership with the NHL and the Carolina Hurricanes to celebrate the 2011 All-Star Weekend Jan. 28-30. The lineup will feature a fan fair, free concerts, a street party and a charity 5K event starting and ending at the RBC Center.


Endurance consumer show rebranded

The world’s largest consumer show and endurance sports awards event, formerly known as the TriExpo and Endurance Sports Awards, has been rebranded as endurance LIVE. The Jan. 22 show at the San Diego Convention Center unites running, cycling and triathlon enthusiasts eager for a preview of the new season’s gear and technology.


Montana, backers plan new district

Pro football hall of famer Joe Montana and an investment group that includes former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo are looking at following the team to Santa Clara to build a hotel and entertainment center across from the franchise’s planned stadium, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle.


Rams, Delta reach multiyear deal

Delta Air Lines and the St. Louis Rams agreed to a multiyear sponsorship deal that makes Delta the official airline of the team. The partnership runs through the 2011 season. American Airlines previously sponsored the team.


Sweets partner with Del Taco

Del Taco joined the Walla Walla Sweets for the 2011 season as an official partner. The relationship calls for in-stadium signage at Borleske Stadium, print and radio inclusion, and a fan-focused ticket promotion: Friends and Family Four-Pack presented by Del Taco. The team plays in the West Coast League, a collegiate summer league.
