The Anaheim Ducks and The Rinks development program formed a partnership agreement with the University of Southern California. Elements of the partnership include a USC ice hockey presence on AnaheimDucks.com and at future Ducks home games this season.
Thrashers update iPhone app
The Atlanta Thrashers and XCO Sports-Link launched an update to their 24/7 application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The upgraded app offers new features and exclusive content, including live poll contests for fans, team news, league standings and an updated game calendar.
Red Sox closing in on final upgrades
The Boston Red Sox announced plans for the 10th and final year of improvements to Fenway Park, including the addition of three HD video display boards, concourse upgrades and some seat replacements. The improvements, which will be completed this offseason, are estimated at $40 million.
Celtics sign private jet partner
Sentient Jet agreed to a sponsorship deal with the Celtics, making it the team’s official private jet partner. As part of the deal, Sentient will sponsor the concierge desk within the Courtside Club at TD Garden and pledged support for the Celtics’ Shamrock Foundation.
Celtics, Dunkin’ renew sponsorship
Dunkin’ Donuts renewed its sponsorship agreement with the Boston Celtics. The three-year extension, which will focus on community and promotional initiatives, will run through the 2012-13 NBA season. Ray Allen will serve as a spokesman for the “Caught Cold” iced coffee campaign.
Sabres celebrate 40th with exhibit
The Buffalo Sabres are marking their 40th anniversary with a special visual exhibition. “Forty: The Sabres in the NHL” will open Sunday and will feature more than 200 photographs and film documenting the team’s history and character. The exhibition is organized by the Buffalo Sabres Foundation along with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
Ford Gum acquires Big League Chew
Ford Gum & Machine Co. acquired the license to produce, market and sell the Big League Chew brand. Ford Gum, located in nearby Akron, N.Y., outbid four other competitors, acquiring the rights that had been held by the William Wrigley Jr. Co. Terms were not disclosed.
Bears partner with Staples on HOF
Staples and the Chicago Bears partnered to recognize Chicago-area small businesses by inducting them into the Staples Small Business Hall of Fame. Tasty Catering was the first of four Chicagoland inductees.

The Chicago Bears debuted their official online photo store. Photos available for purchase include images of Bears players, game action, stadiums and nearly every team photo in franchise history. The site is www.replayphotos.com/chicagobearsphotostore.
Not all cheer Oilers’ decision
The Edmonton Oilers announced that the team would host auditions for a cheer team at the end of October, and the cheerleaders will make their debut during a home game later this year, according to a report in the Edmonton Sun. One fan started an online petition against the idea. Lisi Munro said that a cheer team “would ruin the longtime traditional experience” at Rexall Place, according to the report.

Fans have the opportunity to determine the secret ingredient for the Asphalt Chef charity grilling competition featuring celebrity chefs Mario Batali, Guy Fieri and Tim Love scheduled for Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway. Voting ends today on Texas Motor Speedway’s Facebook page, and the Asphalt Chef secret ingredient will be revealed just before Saturday’s competition begins.
Rodeo champs to meet for record purse
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is adding a new high-stakes competition in 2011. “The Super Shootout: North America’s Champions” will feature champion athletes from the top 10 U.S. and Canadian rodeos competing in fan-favorite events for a total purse of $200,000. The invitation-only event March 20 will be the richest one-day rodeo competition.
BlueClaws to open party room
The Lakewood BlueClaws announced plans for a new Champions Club party room at FirstEnergy Park to open with the 2011 baseball season. The club, which will feature indoor and outdoor seating, private wait service and flat-screen TVs, will hold 50 people and include an all-you-can-eat buffet at $39.95 a person. The BlueClaws are the Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Homestead-Miami Speedway partnered with NASCAR driver and South Florida resident Juan Pablo Montoya to create “Race Day with Juan”— an exclusive meet-and-greet opportunity prior to the Nov. 21 Sprint Cup Championship at the track. USA Basketball to discuss relocation
USA Basketball will hold a board meeting Thursday and Friday in Phoenix to hash out its relocation possibilities, nearly two years after the NGB announced intentions of leaving Colorado Springs, Colo., for Glendale, Ariz, according to a report in The (Colorado Springs) Gazette.
D-Backs continue ticket giveaway
The Arizona Diamondbacks will give away season tickets to a dozen poor families next year, part of a program in place for the past three seasons. The team said it has given out 104 season tickets worth $250,000 to 37 families in the program’s three-year history. Recipients get lower-level tickets, parking passes and food vouchers.
New arena plan to come in January
Developers who want to build a downtown arena notified Sacramento city leaders that they would let their exclusive right to negotiate with the city lapse with the intent of offering a new arena plan in January. Gerry Kamilos and David Taylor will continue to pursue their Sacramento Convergence program, but they did not ask the city to extend their agreement, which expired Oct. 25.
MLS team makes price pledge
Toronto FC pledged to hold prices firm in 2012 for season-ticket holders who renew their seats for 2011 by the club-imposed deadline, according to a report in The (Toronto) Globe and Mail. The team missed the playoffs for the fourth time in as many years, and team officials in a letter to fans on the club’s website vowed to “create a winning culture.”
