Verizon signs deal with soccer complex

Hunt Sports Group will announce Tuesday a six-year sponsorship that will make Verizon Wireless the eighth “signature” partner for Hunt’s soccer complex in Frisco, Texas.

The deal, which industry insiders value in the mid-six figures annually, makes Verizon the exclusive and official wireless provider of Pizza Hut Park, the surrounding sports village, FC Dallas and the North Texas State Soccer Association. Verizon also will brand a club, the Verizon Wireless Club, inside Pizza Hut Park.

Matt McInnis, vice president of sponsorship and broadcasting for Hunt Sports Group, said the 6,500-square-foot area will be accessible to suite and season-ticket holders. Dawn Sprayman, marketing and sponsorship consultant with the central Texas region of Verizon, said the company will install its “In the Zone” interactive product and have a service display area in the club. Sprayman said Verizon has similar areas in a few NFL stadiums, including the Georgia Dome in Atlanta and Reliant Stadium in Houston.

“This sponsorship augments our Dallas Cowboys sponsorship by adding to our portfolio in this market with a real different fan base,” Sprayman said, adding that Verizon does not have any other “direct” relationships with MLS teams.
