The Cleveland Cavaliers named Scott Brewster corporate services coordinator, Leonard Edwards corporate sales associate, Gladys Hernandez administrative services assistant, Pat Murray director of TV and video production services, Pam Neroni account service representative and Scott MacDonald group events specialist. The team also promoted A.J. Bondi to sales manager, Mike Costello to senior sales consultant, Carl Manteau to youth basketball manager, Mike Ostrowski to director of sales and service and Mike Sansone to premium seating manager.

The Milwaukee Bucks hired Cherie Sanborn as sales associate.

The University at Buffalo named Warde Manuel director of athletics. Manuel was associate athletic director at the University of Michigan.

DePaul University named Alicia Powers sports information assistant, Jarett Mason assistant director of sports medicine and Steve Meints assistant director of athletic business and financial affairs and promoted Jason Coomer to assistant director of athletic marketing and licensing.

Conference USA named Judy MacLeod associate commissioner for governance and national policy. MacLeod was director of athletics at the University of Tulsa.

The New York Collegiate Athletic Conference named Edward Manetta commissioner. Manetta is chief executive officer of Worldwide Marketing and Media Group and a former athletic director at St. John’s and DePaul.

Anaheim Arena Management LLC and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim named Janet Conley executive assistant, Alex Evezich sponsorships service manager, Nate Gardner IT associate, Richard Jasik research and development coordinator, Lisa Johnson director of ticket sales and service, Kim Kutcher director of human resources, Greg Rieber senior sales manager and Wendy Yamagishi director of community relations and public affairs. Promotions within the two companies included Ken Bamberg to manager of group sales, Clint Blevins to group sales representative, Todd Farrell to Web site coordinator, Rod Murray to director of entertainment and multimedia, and Jesse Tyler and Jennifer Walker to community relations associates. Anaheim Arena Management promoted Peter Dropick to director of event development, Rebecca Mack to senior event manager, Quinn Mackin to director of events, Brent Mater to assistant director of operations and Julie Sediq to director of media and communications. The Mighty Ducks promoted Jason Davis to event manager, Joe Hwang to manager of fan development, Tracie Jones to director of marketing, Mike Morrow to manager of season sales, Matt Savant to director of fan development, Guy Tomcheck to season sales representative and Allison Wright to advertising and promotions manager. Kevin Starkey was promoted to director of facilities for AAM, the Mighty Ducks and Anaheim Ice.

Central Illinois Arena Management named Suzanne Scardino assistant general manager of the U.S. Cellular Coliseum, to open in spring 2006 in Bloomington, Ill. Scardino left a similar position with the Peoria Civic Center.

The Charlotte Bobcats hired Matt Surabian as director of event administration for the new Charlotte arena. Surabian was manager of event operations at Philips Arena in Atlanta.

The Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League promoted Michael Maciszewski to general manager.

The Chicago Blackhawks named Jim Blaney director of community outreach.

The Dallas Stars hired Nicole Beasley, Jayme Eichner and Aldo Truden as account executives.

The Tampa Bay Lightning named Harry Hutt executive vice president of corporate sales and marketing.

USA Hockey named Don Waddell general manager, Paul Holmgren assistant general manager and Jim Johannson director of hockey operations for the 2006 U.S. Olympic men’s ice hockey team.

The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights of the American Hockey League named Brad Haynes vice president of sales and marketing, Dave Ahlers director of communications and broadcasting, Scott Zingerman and Keith Edmonds account executives and Jeremy Kaliff administrative assistant and merchandise manager.


Adrenalin Inc. hired Chris Davis as director of corporate marketing. Davis was sales coordinator with the Bonham Group.

141 Worldwide named Jeannie Goldstein executive vice president, managing director. Goldstein comes from Relay Sponsorship and Event Marketing.

The Bonham Group promoted Patrick Woods to director, new business development and Laura Bunte to sales coordinator.

Manolo Cevallos was named president of International Sports and Media Group.

CSTV Networks named Joe Gangone executive vice president for ad sales. Gangone was founder and chief executive officer of GangOne Consulting.

Sean Downey was named managing editor of Runner’s World magazine. Downey was managing editor for the Consumer Technology Publishing Group.

Sporting News Radio added the title of vice president, sales to Mike Winn, general manager of Boston’s WWZN-AM.

The Tennis Channel promoted Mike Kim and John Sorrells to account directors. Kim is based in Los Angeles and Sorrells in Atlanta.

News Corp. and The Associated Press formed a joint venture called Stats LLC. to produce sports data and content. Stats Inc. CEO Gary Walrath will be president and chief executive officer of Stats LLC.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel promoted Brian White to sports editor.

Backpacker Magazine named Kristin Hostetter gear editor. Hostetter held the same position from 1994 to 2000.

Clear Channel Entertainment Television named Kate McDonald international sales executive of music and entertainment. McDonald was vice president of television sales for Eagle Rock Entertainment Inc.

OLN hired Mandy Orzo as director, acquisitions and scheduling. Orzo was manager of program planning for Spike TV.

Rodale Inc. hired Jim Berra as senior vice president of customer marketing. Berra was senior vice president, customer marketing for Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

The NHRA hired Tony Carmean as director of sales and Joshua Kritzler as manager of sponsorship sales.

The Champ Car World Series named Mark Reilly vice president of broadcast sales and distribution. Reilly was a senior partner at Stedmark Associates.

Modell’s Sporting Goods named Jon Friedman senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. Friedman was senior vice president and chief financial officer USA at Toys “R” Us.

Kwik Goal Ltd. promoted Mike Walter to director of team sales.

Columbia Sportswear Co. named Mark Koppes to the newly created position of general manager, men’s apparel. Koppes comes to Columbia from Nike.

Russell Corp. named corporate controller Victoria Beck vice president.

Sports Law

David Askinas was named adjunct professor of sports law for the MBA in sport management program at Florida Atlantic University. Askinas was chief executive officer, chief operating officer and general counsel for the United Soccer Leagues.

Capital District Sports Inc. hired Mike McCaffery as director of corporate sales. McCaffery will be responsible for sales for the Albany (N.Y.) River Rats of the American Hockey League and the Albany Conquest of Arena Football 2. He was sales manager at the National Institute for Fitness and Sport.

New Era Tickets named Patrice Greene to the newly created position of marketing services coordinator. Greene joins New Era Tickets from Primavera Systems.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation named Betty Otter-Nickerson chief operating officer.

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation named Richard Burt, Wes Edens and Mike Shannon trustees.

XOS Technologies hired Ray Thompson as vice president of product marketing and promoted Albert Tsai to vice president of advanced research and development.

Peak Resource Group hired Judy Warren as vice president, new business development.

PrimeSport named Sharyn Outtrim director of special events. Outtrim was stadium club manager for the Super Bowl Corporate Hospitality Village for the NFL.

Awards and Boards
Sun Sports’ marketing and creative services team won a 2005 Silver Promax Award. The team includes Marc Battaglia, Ryan Wilson, Michael Nadell, Rachel Adams, John Martin, Michelle Bryan and Mike Roche.

The National Radio Hall of Fame will induct Marty Brennaman and Myron Cope into the hall Nov. 5. Brennaman has been the voice of the Cincinnati Reds since 1974, and Cope recently retired after a 35-year career as radio color commentator for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Kentucky Thoroughbred Association/Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders hired William Landes III as president and named Clifford Barry, Gary Biszantz, L. Pope McLean Jr., Greg Foley and Niall O’Callaghan to the board of directors.

John Hoke III was named to the board of directors of office furniture company Herman Miller. Hoke is vice president of global footwear design for Nike.

Cindy Mercer was named to the board of Team USA Football. Mercer is president of public relations and events firm DTpr.
