Giveaways that paid off at the gate
Published October 18, 2004
The following list shows giveaways during the most recent Major League Baseball, NBA and NHL seasons. Actual attendance at games where each item was given away was compared to average attendance for the full season. Giveaways on weekdays (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) were compared to average attendance on weekdays, while giveaways on weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) were compared to average attendance on weekends.
The list does not include giveaways held by fewer than four teams, fan activities (such as fireworks, fans running the bases after a game, concerts, etc.) or discount ticket deals. Giveaways held during the first game of the season also are excluded as attendance is usually higher for season openers no matter what is given away.
