Legal sports betting in Nevada by sports book and race pari-mutuel categories

Legal wagering with sports books in Nevada peaked in 1996 and has declined nearly 25 percent since then. The change coincides with the growing popularity of online sports wagering, which began to take hold in 1997. The chart below details the amount wagered, the amount of wagers retained by sports books, and the percentage of total wagers that were retained by sports books from the past 10 years of sports gambling in Nevada. Figures listed for each year’s total sports books do not include wagers on sports pari-mutuel and non pari-mutuel. Those figures represented less than 1 percent of the pool.
