Marketer Rick Ryan joins lacrosse league
Published November 26, 2001

Sport marketing veteran Rick Ryan is joining Major League Lacrosse as its first chief sponsorship and marketing officer.
Ryan will oversee a planned branding initiative in addition to running MLL sponsorship sales. League "founding partners" include Anheuser-Busch, SoBe Beverages, Yahoo! Sports and Merrill Lynch. Two more top-level sponsorships are available for $250,000 to $500,000, which include sponsor logos on uniforms and player rights.
Ryan, who will start his job in mid-December, joins MLL after a year at Octagon, where he was senior vice president, property representation. Ryan was vice president of marketing and sales at National Media Group from 1996 to 2000 and spent 10 years at Capital Sports before that.
Ryan is the second senior executive to join the 1-year-old outdoor lacrosse league in the past month. Matthew Pace, former executive vice president of Kaleidoscope Sports & Entertainment, was named executive director in October.
