HOW YOU SEE IT
Published September 17, 2001
I've just finished reading "Football fuels the gravy train at the top" in the Sept. 10 issue of SportsBusiness Journal. It is an excellent piece that goes to the economic heart of big-time college football. However, the one glaring omission in the piece is the fact that the athletes, who generate these multimillions of dollars, are not paid. Small wonder these top 50 programs generate enough money to fund these schools' entire athletic departments including the "minor" (non-revenue generating) sports programs.
