Fans put DirecTV 500 among NASCAR's elite
Published October 23, 2000
The Oct. 2 issue refers to "NASCAR's Top Five" events.
Since NASCAR is the ultimate fan sport, we believe the fans determine the "Top Five" events. They "vote" at the ticket window and with the remote control. And the winner is ... Texas Motor Speedway!
Texas Motor Speedway sold out America's second-largest sports facility and had to add 16,000 temporary seats this past April for the DirecTV 500. That event also drew a 6.0 Nielsen rating nationally, second only to the Daytona 500. Both the live crowd and the TV ratings were more than twice some of the events you cited in your "Top Five."
Texas Motor Speedway always sides with the fans! The DirecTV 500 is one of NASCAR's "Top Five!"
Eddie Gossage is executive vice president and general manager of Texas Motor Speedway.
