Livestreaming Platform Huya Secures LoL Korea Champions Streaming Rights In China

Huya is now Riot Games' exclusive third-party streaming partner for the 2018 League of Legends Korea Champions in China, as Riot confirmed, according to Thiemo Bräutigam of THE ESPORTS OBSERVER. The Twitch-like livestreaming platform, whose parent company is YY, is "off to a good start" in '18. After a $75M fundraiser in May last year, Huya was able to broadcast League of Legends' "most competitive region in esports' second biggest market." YY wants "more." Huya is reportedly seeking more than $200M in a U.S. IPO. Thus far, the gaming subsidiary "is not making money for YY," but with operating losses narrowing to 10.1M yuan in the third quarter of '17 compared with 159M yuan a year prior, the business outlook is "promising" (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 1/8).
