Chinese Company Kingzone Acquires Esports Team Longzhu Gaming

Chinese smartphone producer Kingzone acquired Longzhu Gaming’s roster and its League of Legends Champions Korea slot, according to Angelos Anastasopoulos of THE ESPORTS OBSERVER. Longzhu CEO "Plufriend" announced the sale on his personal Weibo account and -- according to a translation by news outlet chhopsky.tv -- he was "forced to sell the team to comply with Riot Korea’s conflict of interest rules." In '16, Chinese gaming streaming platform Longhzu was bought by online retailer Suning Commerce Group, a company that also owned League of Legends team Suning Gaming. The team qualified for the Chinese League of Legends Pro League Summer Split and Suning "found itself violating Riot Games’ rules regarding multi-team ownership." At the same time, Longzhu was "experiencing financial problems." The team failed to pay staff and players’ salaries and "soon afterward the Korea e-Sports Association took temporary control of the team." Suning tried to find a solution to keep both teams, according to Plufriend's translated statement, but "could not resolve the situation" (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 1/8).
