League Notes: Doctor Says Cricket Not Doing Enough To Protect Players From Concussions

Cricketers face "serious risks" because the sport is failing to do enough to protect players from concussion, former Australian team doctor Peter Brukner warned. Brukner, who was Australia's team doctor from '12-17, said,  "International cricket has been slow to react to concussion, and there is far more that could be done to reduce risks. There is currently a worrying divergence in how seriously different countries take concussion, and ultimately this endangers players" (London TELEGRAPH, 1/1).

The Ukraine Rugby League announced a revamp of its top competition, which will see five regional Super League franchises put in place, "each allied to an English club." Those five -- participants in the '18 Super Rugby League -- will be: Transcarpathia Trinity, linked to Wakefield; Lviv Tigers, allied to Castleford; Wests Knights, partnered by York; Kyiv Rhinos, which will work with Leeds; and Easts Giants, supported by Huddersfield (TOTAL RL, 12/30).
