League One side Charlton Athletic CEO KATRIEN MEIRE will leave the club at the end of the year. Charlton "will not seek to directly replace Meire" as it reviews its management structure "amid talk of a potential takeover." Meire, 33, joined the club in Jan. '14 as assistant to Owner ROLAND DUCHÂTELET (BBC, 12/28).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Premier League side Swansea City appointed former League Championship club Sheffield Wednesday Manager CARLOS CARVALHAL as its new permanent boss. Player-coach LEON BRITTON had been in temporary charge of Swansea since PAUL CLEMENT was sacked on Dec. 20. The Portuguese, who becomes the club's fifth permanent manager in two years, "joins Swansea initially until the end of the season with the option of an extension" (BBC, 12/28). ... Former AC Milan coach VINCENZO MONTELLA is set to take over at La Liga side Sevilla after Argentine EDUARDO BERIZZO was "sacked after a poor run a week ago," sources said on Thursday. Montella reportedly "will sign a year-and-a-half deal" (ANSA, 12/28). ... Frenchman SÉBASTIEN DESABRE was unveiled as the new coach of Uganda's national football team as he signed a two-year deal. His first task will be to "prepare a team of locally-based players for next month's African Nations Championship" in Morocco. The Federation of Uganda FAs added that Desabre will "work closely with all of Uganda's development teams" (BBC, 12/28). ... Eredivisie side Ajax named Utrecht Manager ERIK TEN HAG its head coach following last week's "clearout." MARCEL KEIZER and assistants DENNIS BERGKAMP and HENNIE SPIJKERMAN were sacked after Wednesday's Dutch Cup defeat to Twente. Ten Hag will sign a two-and-a-half-year deal which starts on Monday (BBC, 12/28).
