Jarryd Hayne Could Face National Rugby League Sanctions Over Rape Claims

National Rugby League player Jarryd Hayne "could find his triumphant Parramatta return derailed because of the rape allegation made in a civil case" following his time playing in the NFL, according to McBeath & Logue of the Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH. Hayne’s return to Australia "comes in the wake of a leading sports lawyer’s warning that he could face suspension from the NRL" if it turns out that he "failed to tell the governing body or his club about the accusations." He was due to begin preseason training with the Parramatta Eels late next week, "but his return could be put on hold." He will "need to meet the NRL integrity unit to explain himself" and the allegations about a '15 incident made in the civil suit. Hayne "rejected the claims." Sports lawyer and former NRL player Tim Fuller said that if Hayne "did fail to tell his club about the accusations, it could be grounds for suspension or fines from the NRL" (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 12/28).
