Tottenham striker Harry Kane surpassed Alan Shearer's record for Premier League goals in a calendar year with a hat trick in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Southampton, according to the BBC. He scored 39 top-flight goals in '17 and 56 in all competitions, including England games, "making him the top scorer in Europe for club and country." Kane: "It's been a fantastic year." Kane's hat trick -- "just three days after a treble against Burnley" -- meant he will end '17 with two more goals than Lionel Messi scored for Argentina and Barcelona and three more than Cristiano Ronaldo's tally for Portugal and Real Madrid.
