New League Two Side Cambridge United Owner Has Plans For New Stadium

Incoming League Two side Cambridge United Owner Paul Barry is planning for a new stadium in the "heart" of the Abbey Ward, according to Andrew Georgeson of the CAMBRIDGE NEWS. Interim Head of Business Shaun Grady assured fans that recent increased financial investment is, "initially, to help the new stadium." Grady said, "What’s key and critical to him is that we steward the football club to a strong and appropriate position in the hierarchy and to a new stadium that’s at the heart of the community in the Abbey Ward that’s at the heart of the community in Cambridge." Fans have been "waiting for an update on the stadium situation" following the withdrawal of plans for a new stadium in Trumpington in June. While Grady appreciates that "there is an appetite for more information," he was "reluctant to give too much away at this early stage, with so many false dawns in the past." He said, "We’re trying to be really open and honest with the questions you’re raising, but what we don’t want to do is to be preemptive about the stadium because it’s delicate given the previous set of plans and [the] transition into a new set of plans" (CAMBRIDGE NEWS, 12/20).
