Mikel Arteta Tapped As Potential Replacement For Wenger At Arsenal

Mikel Arteta is "being lined up as a future Arsenal manager" as the club continues to "plan for life after" Arsène Wenger, according to Matt Law of the London TELEGRAPH. Arteta is currently working as assistant coach at Man City after becoming the first confirmed member of Pep Guardiola's backroom team last summer. The 35-year-old spent five years at Arsenal as a player, captaining the club for the final two of those, "and the Gunners were prepared to offer Arteta a place on their coaching staff after he announced his retirement." But Arteta decided to join Man City to learn under Guardiola. Arteta was part of a group that included Thierry Henry which completed its UEFA Pro Licence in September and is "due to receive formal confirmation he has gained his final coaching badge." Wenger has another year remaining on his contract after this season and the timing "could be perfect" for Arteta to succeed the Frenchman, following a further 12 months with Guardiola at Man City (TELEGRAPH, 12/18).
