Finance Notes: AFC Increases Prize Money For AFC Champions League, AFC Cup

The Asian Football Confederation increased the prize money for the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup. The AFC Champions League winner will receive $4M in '18, while the club that wins the AFC Cup will earn $1.5M from next season. The AFC Champions League is second to the European club competitions in terms of prize money and in addition to the $1M increase for the winner, the runner-up will get an extra $500,000 (AFC).

Australian Football League side Western Bulldogs reported a third successive seven-figure profit, "extinguishing" the net debt at the club. Although it slipped from '16 champion to 10th on the ladder this year, the Bulldogs recorded a profit of A$1,643,050 ($1.23M) for the financial year ending on Oct. 31, "underpinned by growth in commercial revenue and a third-straight membership record." Club CEO Gary Kent said, "We are unable to recall the last time the club was in a position of having nil net debt" (AAP, 12/6).
