AMR FAHMY was appointed general secretary of the Confederation of African Football on Thursday, "following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather." The 34-year-old Egyptian replaced HICHAM EL AMRANI of Morocco, who resigned "just after" ISSA HAYATOU of Cameroon was replaced as CAF president (BBC, 11/17). ... Formula 1 hired former Fox Sports President DAVID HILL "to advise on an overhaul of its on-screen package which is set to include virtual advertisements from brands local to where the races take place." Hill worked for Australia's Nine Network in the '80s and helped launch Sky TV in Great Britain in '89. He was president of Fox Sports from '93-00, making "a name for himself through the introduction of cutting-edge on-air innovations" (FORBES, 11/17).

COACHES/MANAGERS: CHRIS COLEMAN was named manager of League Championship side Sunderland after resigning as Wales' manager. The 47-year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year deal, replacing SIMON GRAYSON, who was sacked "at the end of October after only 18 games in charge." Welshman Coleman becomes the club's 10th permanent manager since ROY KEANE's exit in Dec. '08 (BBC, 11/19). ... Football Kenya Federation confirmed the appointment of Belgian PAUL PUT as the national team's new head coach. Put, 61, signed a two-year deal to coach the Harambee Stars. He replaced STANLEY OKUMBI, who had been in the post since '16 (BBC, 11/18).
