Italy and Juventus goalkeeper GIANLUIGI BUFFON will retire at the end of the season unless his club wins the Champions League. The 39-year-old "hopes to play in next summer's World Cup and would extend his career for the Club World Cup if Juventus won Europe's elite trophy" (BBC, 10/25). ... Spanish track athlete ILIAS FIFA was arrested on Wednesday for "alleged links to a doping web that was supposedly involved in the buying and distributing of illegal substances for athletes." Fifa was arrested at his home, "where officers also carried out a search looking for further evidence of his participation" (MARCA, 10/25). ... Japanese world No. 4 golfer HIDEKI MATSUYAMA accepted the chance to play golf with U.S. President DONALD TRUMP and Japanese PM SHINZO ABE next month. Trump will visit Japan from Nov. 5-7 for a five-nation Asia tour and the round with Matsuyama has been scheduled on the first day at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe, near Tokyo (REUTERS, 10/25). ... Leaked audio reveals Serie A side Lazio President CLAUDIO LOTITO sighing, "Let’s just get on with this charade," ahead of his visit to a Roman synagogue. Lotito delivered a wreath of flowers after fans left anti-Semitic messages in the Curva Sud of the Stadio Olimpico as well as stickers depicting holocaust victim Anne Frank in a Roma shirt. Leaked audio published on Wednesday appeared to show Lotito attending with "an air of resignation, complaining about the representatives of the synagogue who will be present" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 10/25). ... Force India Formula 1 driver SERGIO PÉREZ presented the helmet he will wear during this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix, which will feature the words "Fuerza México" ("Strength Mexico") on the back in honor of the victims of the earthquake that struck Mexico in September (LA AFICIÓN, 10/25).
