Finance Notes: UEFA Says Nations League Will Boost European Int'l Football

The new UEFA Nations League will enhance the value of European int'l football matches, according to UEFA Marketing Dir Guy-Laurent Epstein. Speaking at Sportel Monaco, Epstein indicated that Nations League matches, combined with Euro 2020 qualifiers and remaining friendlies involving European teams "should generate" €2B ($2.4B) over the '18-22 cycle. This would be up from an estimated €1.35B ($1.6B) -- comprised of around €1B ($1.2B) from Euro qualifiers and €350M ($412M) from friendlies -- from '14-18 (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 10/24).

The BCCI will pay more than Rs 800 crore ($120M) to disbanded Indian Premier League franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in '11. IPL Chair Rajiv Shukla said, "Kochi Tuskers has demanded Rs 850 crore ($127.7M) as compensation. Today we discussed the matter at IPL GC meeting and we will now place the matter before general body. Let them take a call but obviously, some negotiations are needed" (PTI, 10/24).
