U.K. MP DOUGLAS ROSS missed a debate and vote on welfare policy because he was running the line at a Champions League match at Barcelona. Ross was an assistant referee at the Camp Nou for Wednesday's match against Olympiacos (PA, 10/18). ... Olympic champion high jumper RUTH BEITIA retired from athletics "due to persistent injuries." Beitia, who won the high jump at the Rio Olympics, is the only Spanish female athlete to have won an Olympic Gold (REUTERS, 10/18).

TOP OF THE LIST: Real Madrid striker CRISTIANO RONALDO is the "richest sports personality in Europe," according to the latest Forbes' Rich List. Ronaldo earned £70M in the last year. He is only £1M short of being the "most wealthy celebrity on the continent," with Harry Potter author JK ROWLING earning £71M in that same period. Ronaldo is joined "by just one Englishman on the list," with Formula 1 driver LEWIS HAMILTON in 11th place having earned £32M. And "despite the money flowing through the Premier League," there is "just one representative from England's top flight," with ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIĆ "sneaking into" the top 20 thanks to his earnings of £24M (London DAILY MAIL, 10/18).
