Media Notes: Rostelecom Launches Eurosport Gold In Russia

Eurosport Gold was launched in Russia by Rostelecom and "made exclusively available" to the latter’s 4.5 million "Interactive TV" subscribers. According to Rostelecom, the channel is the result of cooperation between the telecom and Media Alliance, "which develops and distributes channels in the Discovery and Eurosport portfolio." It is based on the content of Eurosport 2 and the only channel in Russia that will broadcast "key matches" from the NHL (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 10/6).

Eleven Sports announced a partnership with Twitter to livestream seven Ivy League football games during October and November. The streams can be found via @ElevenSportsUSA on Twitter. The games will be available for free globally (Eleven Sports). 

The Bulgaria vs. France World Cup qualifying match, which France won 1-0, was watched by 7.3 million viewers on TF1. The game drew a market share of 32.6%. The game nearly matched the Aug. 31 match between France and the Netherlands, which drew 7.6 million viewers (L’ÉQUIPE, 10/8).

British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua's next three fights will be broadcast on SFR Sport. The channel announced an agreement with Matchroom that gives it the exclusive broadcast rights in France and Belgium (non-exclusive rights in Switzerland and Luxembourg). Joshua is scheduled to fight Kubrat Pulev on Oct. 28 (L’ÉQUIPE, 10/7).

TNT’s Stan Van Gundy, ESPN’s Tim Reed, NBA Playoffs and NFL Draft

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown. SBJ’s Tom Friend also joins the show to share his insights into NBA viewership trends.
