STUART DEW has been appointed the new coach of Australian Football League club Gold Coast Suns. The Sydney Swans assistant beat a field including Carlton assistant JOHN BARKER and Hawthorn assistant SCOT BURNS (THE AGE, 10/4). ... JEFF KENNETT is back as the president of AFL side Hawthorn, after RICHARD GARVEY "offered his resignation at a board meeting on Wednesday." A statement released by the club said, "The board of the Hawthorn Football Club met early this morning where the president, Richard Garvey, indicated that he was resigning as president of the club accepting responsibility for a recent board decision." Garvey will continue with the club as a director (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/4).
