Facility Notes: MCC Votes To Proceed With Updated Masterplan For Lord's Redevelopment

Marylebone Cricket Club members voted to proceed with the club's updated masterplan for the redevelopment of Lord's Cricket Ground. The result -- by a 90.5% majority -- was confirmed by the Electoral Reform Society. Therefore, MCC will adopt its MCC Updated Masterplan, a £194M ($259.8M) program of works that will be completed in '32. The entire development will be funded from the club's resources, and the decision closes the door on the long-running debate of possible residential development at Lord's (MCC).

Old Trafford will "continue to host the Super League Grand Final" until '20 after a new three-year deal was agreed. ManU's 75,643-capacity stadium has staged the event since the '98 opener, and was the Premiership Rugby final venue from '87-97. This year's showpiece takes place on Oct. 7 (BBC, 9/27).

The decision on the future of the Carterton, New Zealand, sports hub proposal is "over to the wider community." Carterton District Council put a survey on its website "to gauge community interest so it can decide whether to fully back the proposal." The last public meeting showed there was "overwhelming support for the proposal," with six sporting clubs on board and "room for others to join" (STUFF, 9/27).

A funding package was completed for the £1.6M ($2.1M) project to create a museum celebrating two-time Formula 1 champion Jim Clark in Scotland. Scottish Borders Council has secured nearly £635,000 ($851,000) from the Heritage Lottery Fund and "will contribute a similar sum itself." The Jim Clark Trust has also reached its target of £300,000 ($308,000). It will see a "small exhibition space in Duns redeveloped into a modern museum and should be completed by next year" (BBC, 9/20).

A new training center for South Korean national team athletes officially opened Wednesday. More than 2,000 guests, including PM Lee Nak-yeon, Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Lee Kee-heung and former Olympic medalists attended the event. The Jincheon Center replaces the Taereung National Training Center in Seoul (YONHAP, 9/27).
