Real Madrid forward KARIM BENZEMA signed a new contract at the club, which reportedly includes a €1B ($1.19B) buyout clause. The side announced on Wednesday that Benzema signed a three-year extension to his current deal, which was due to expire at the end of next season, taking him through '21 (REUTERS, 9/20). ... Former RTÉ sports commentator and journalist JIMMY MAGEE died, aged 82. The veteran broadcaster "had been ill for some time." He was born in N.Y. and raised in County Louth, Ireland. Known as "the memory man," he joined RTÉ in '56 and in his time as a broadcaster, commentated on 10 Olympic Games and 11 World Cups (RTÉ). ... Pakistan batsman KHALID LATIF was banned from cricket "for five years for his part in a spot-fixing ring." A Pakistan Cricket Board tribunal "handed down the punishment after finding Latif guilty of all charges at a hearing on Wednesday" (BBC, 9/20).
