The IOC elected eight new members as well as a new VP and three new members of its exec board during the IOC Session. ANITA DEFRANTZ (U.S.), who joined the IOC in '85, was elected as an IOC VP. ROBIN MITCHELL (Fiji), NICOLE HOEVERTSZ (Aruba) and DENIS OSWALD (Switzerland) were chosen by the session to join the IOC exec board. They will each serve a four-year term. Four members were elected in the category of individual members: BAKLAI TEMENGIL (Palau), KRISTIN KLOSTER AASEN (Norway), KHUNYING PATAMA LEESWADTRAKUL (Thailand) and LUIS MEJÍA OVIEDO (Dominican Republic). Pan-American Sports Organization President NEVEN IVAN ILIC ALVAREZ (Chile) and Oman Olympic Committee President KHALID MUHAMMAD AL ZUBAIR were elected as representatives of a National Olympic Committee or continental association of NOCs. World Rowing President JEAN-CHRISTOPHE ROLLAND (France) and Int'l Equestrian Federation (FEI) President INGMAR DE VOS (Belgium) were elected as members representing an int'l federation (IOC).
COACHES/MANAGERS: LUIS ZUBELDIA "is no longer the coach" of La Liga side Alavés. JAVIER CABELLO "was named interim coach" and AITOR KARANKA is one of the candidates to take over as Zubeldia's replacement. Alavés lost four of its first five games (MARCA, 9/17). ...
