Former Civic Leader Believes Etihad Stadium Should Be Leveled, Replaced

Former civic leader Andrew McLeod said that the Etihad Stadium "should be bulldozed and a new sports arena should be built at Port Melbourne Cricket Ground," according to John Masanauskas of the HERALD SUN. He said that the Docklands venue had "done its job" as an anchor tenant for the waterfront precinct and should be redeveloped. McLeod: "Where the Port Melbourne ground is (in the Fishermans Bend redevelopment zone) is ideally located to be another great stadium, but it needs a public transport link put into there." He is also a "big fan" of Docklands but believes the area could be "better integrated with the CBD if Etihad Stadium was demolished" (HERALD SUN, 8/28).
