Barcelona defender LUCAS DIGNE reportedly "aided those wounded in the terrorist attack in the city last week." Catalan radio station RAC1 reported earlier Monday that Digne "heard screams from his apartment" near the site of the attack and "went down to the street to attend to the wounded with towels and water bottles" (ESPN.com, 8/21). ... Formula 1 team Ferrari extended former world champion KIMI RÄIKKÖNEN's contract until the end of the '18 season. In a statement, the team said that it renewed its "technical and racing agreement" with the Finn, extending his stay into a fifth consecutive year (BBC, 8/22). ... Norwegian three-time Olympic cross-country medalist THERESE JOHAUG "will not be allowed to compete at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games" after the Court of Arbitration for Sport extended a doping ban originally handed down by a Norwegian Olympic tribunal. Johaug had asked the court to overturn the 13-month ban she received after testing positive for anabolic steroid clostebol in September. She said, "I am heartbroken. I had a dream to get to the Olympics" (WASHINGTON POST, 8/22). ... Former world No. 1 women's tennis player VICTORIA AZARENKA will miss the US Open because of an "ongoing family situation." The Belarusian "only returned to tennis in June" after giving birth to her son, LEO, in December. Azarenka, 28, separated from his father in July, and last week she issued a statement saying that she could only play in the tournament "if I leave Leo behind." Japan's MISA EGUCHI "moves into the main draw for the tournament," which starts on Monday (BBC, 8/21). ... Three athletics officials "have had their life bans over an alleged doping cover-up upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport." PAPA MASSATA DIACK, son of ex-IAAF President LAMINE DIACK, and Russians VALENTIN BALAKHNICHEV and ALEXEI MELNIKOV had their appeals dismissed. They were charged in Dec. '15 with "multiple breaches of anti-doping rules" relating to Russian LILIYA SHOBUKHOVA (BBC, 8/21). ... Former Arsenal forward LUKAS PODOLSKI is "considering legal action after a right-wing website printed a photo of him with an article about illegal immigration." The ex-Germany int'l was pictured by Breitbart under the headline: "Spanish Police Crack Gang Moving Migrants on Jet-Skis." The website has since amended the article and apologized to Podolski (BBC, 8/21).
