Finance Notes: Scottish Rugby Broke £50M Turnover Mark For First Time In '16-17

Scottish Rugby broke the £50M ($65M) turnover mark for the first time. Increases in ticketing revenue, improved broadcast rights payments and continued commercial growth from sponsors contributed to creating a £4M ($5.2M) increase in turnover to £51.4M ($67M) from the '16 accounts. A surplus of £1.7M ($2.2M) was achieved in the '16-17 financial year and there was a £3.3M ($4.3M) fall in the average debt, which was reported at £5.2M ($6.8M) (Scottish Rugby).

Speculation is persisting that Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund "could receive almost half" as much as the €222M ($262M) Barcelona stands to get for Neymar's transfer to Paris St. Germain. The club's shares "climbed" as much as 2.5%, extending the increase to as much as 6.9% since PSG announced the transfer. L’Équipe reported that Barcelona may pay in excess of €100M ($118M) to replace Neymar with Dortmund attacker Ousmane Dembele. Rumors of a Dembele deal "are supporting the stock," and should lead to "very positive" first-quarter numbers, according to Bankhaus Lampe KG analyst Christoph Schlienkamp (BLOOMBERG, 8/7).
