Event Notes: South African Cabinet Backs Country's Bid To Host 2023 Rugby World Cup

South Africa's cabinet said on Thursday that it "backed a bid by the country's rugby union to host the Rugby World Cup" in '23. South Africa previously hosted the tournament once in '95. The South African government in May said that it "had lifted a ban" on the country's rugby union hosting int'l events "after it made progress improving racial diversity in the sport, paving the way for a 2023 Rugby World Cup bid" (REUTERS, 8/3).

The Indonesian Masters has been named the final event of this year's Asian Tour, tournament organizers said. The seventh edition of the tournament will be held from Dec. 14-17 at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club and determine the Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, "who receives direct entry into the British Open and World Golf Championships next year" (REUTERS, 8/3).
