Media Notes: FanDuel Withdraws From U.K. Market After One Season

Daily fantasy sports operator FanDuel has "withdrawn its offering" from the U.K. after "just one season." The company told players that it "will not offer any contests" in the U.K. this season, with all player balances refunded. FanDuel did not provide "any further explanation for the withdrawal," although it noted that it paid out less than £1M ($1.3M) in prizes to U.K. customers over the course of the '16-17 season (GAMING INTELLIGENCE, 7/31).

German pay-TV channel sportdigital and DAZN, the OTT sports portal operated by U.K.-based Perform Group, acquired the TV rights of Portuguese football league Primeira Liga in Germany. The contract with sports rights agency Lagardère Sports "covers the next three seasons." Financial details "were not disclosed" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 7/31).

Sky Sports Box Office will show the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. The event on Aug. 26 will be available on Sky Sports Box Office for £19.95 ($26.29) in the U.K. and €24.95 ($29.48) in the Republic of Ireland (Sky Sports). 

U.K. independent bookmaker Betfred agreed to an extended media rights deal with The Racing Partnership, the official broadcast company for the Arena Racing Company. The deal will see TRP content from 15 ARC racecourses and seven syndicated independent racetracks broadcast with immediate effect across Betfred’s U.K. retail portfolio (SBC NEWS, 7/31).

Olympic Gold Medalist Greg Rutherford is joining Eurosport's coverage of the IAAF World Athletics Championships 2017. Long-jumper Rutherford was ruled out of the championships in London due to injury (Eurosport).
