Finance Notes: U.S. Open To Become First Tennis Tourney To Top $50M In Prize Money

This year's U.S. Open "will become the first tennis tournament" to top $50M in prize money following a 9% increase in the total purse, the U.S. Tennis Association said on Tuesday. Winners of the men's and women's singles titles will each earn $3.7M, while runners-up will pocket $1.83M from the $50.4M total pot. The men's and women's doubles champion teams will each earn $675,000, also the highest in U.S. Open history (REUTERS, 7/18).

This year's Barcelona Open had an economic impact of €45.1M on the city. The tournament, which took place in late April, drew a total of 95,968 spectators. The study of the event's economic impact was carried out by the DEP Insitute (AS, 7/19).
