National Rugby League Side Gold Coast Titans To Hit The Market In August

National Rugby League side Gold Coast Titans "are set to go on the market next month with the club yet to secure a deal with the state government" over its home ground for next season, according to Brent Read of THE AUSTRALIAN. The Titans "remain in NRL hands but the governing body has made no secret" of its plans to sell the club once a buyer is found for the Newcastle Knights. The NRL "has had some interest in the club but has resisted negotiations with interested parties" while in the process of selling the Knights. Former part-Owner Daryl Kelly has spoken of his desire to "purchase a new stake in the Titans, possibly as part of a consortium of local businesspeople." Titans Chair Rebecca Frizelle "has also been flagged as a potential shareholder," while North Sydney continues to be linked with the club as it attempts to "breathe new life into the Bears moniker." The Titans' "more immediate concern" centers on "sorting out" its home ground. The club does not have a deal in place for next season to play at Robina Stadium, "although talks are continuing with the Queensland government" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 7/13).
