Sky Sports Reveals New Designated Channels, Cost Structure For Revamp

Sky Sports will "devote an entire channel to the Premier League in a major shake-up" of its programming, according to Adam Shergold of the London DAILY MAIL. From July 18, football, cricket and golf will also have "their own designated channels" on the Sky Sports platform as the broadcaster increases its roster to "10 channels in all." Sky said that the new 10-channel line-up will be available for the same subscription price of £27.50 ($35.42) per month and this "will remain frozen for 12 months." But if fans of a specific sport want to add individual channels to their Sky subscription, it will cost them £18 ($23.19) a month for one, £22 ($28.34) for two or £26 ($33.49) for three. The Premier League channel "will be the place to watch the 126 live matches to be screened by Sky in the season ahead, as well as a new nightly Premier League debate show." The remainder of Sky's football output will now be found on the Sky Sports Football channel, including live matches from the English Football League, EFL Cup, Scottish Premiership, La Liga and int'l fixtures (DAILY MAIL, 7/10). In London, Tom Dutton reported Sky Sports Managing Dir Barney Francis said, "We're dedicating channels to some of our biggest sports, launching a new way to watch the best live action and offering even better digital products too" (EVENING STANDARD, 7/10).
