Russian Sports Ministry Introduces Set Of Measures Aimed To Eradicate Doping

The Russian Ministry of Sports, along with Russian government authorities, "introduced a set of measures on Monday aimed to eradicate the threat of doping in Russia," according to RT. To tackle doping, the ministry focused on establishing an "effective legal and regulatory framework." Scientific and biomedical support, information technology to battle doping, and cooperation with int'l sports organizations are also "among the measures targeting the prevention of doping in Russia that are mentioned in the order published on government.ru." All anti-doping actions will be conducted and coordinated by the Russian Sports Ministry (RT, 7/10).

CLEARED TO COMPETE: REUTERS' Brian Homewood reported former long jump world champion Aleksandr Menkov is "among 16 more Russian athletes who have been cleared to compete as neutrals," the IAAF said on Sunday. The IAAF said that the 16 had met the "exceptional eligibility criteria" required to compete while Russia remains suspended from the sport (REUTERS, 7/9).
