Scottish Football Announces Record Prize Money For '17-18 League Cup

The Scottish Professional Football League announced that the winner of this season's Scottish League Cup will receive a record £250,000 ($323,870), according to Alasdair Mackenzie of the HERALD SCOTLAND. A total of £1.6M ($2M) "will be paid out in prize money" for the '17-18 tournament, in addition to £500,000 ($647,740) worth of TV payments. The total pot to be divided among competing clubs "comes to just over" £2M ($2.6M), a 15% increase from the £1.8M "dished out" to Scottish teams last season. A quarterfinal exit will earn clubs £60,000 ($77,700), losing semifinalists will get £80,000 ($103,600) and the runner-up will take home £115,000 ($140,000). In addition, each of the 12 clubs involved in a televised group stage match will earn £12,500 ($16,200), finalists will receive £32,000 ($41,500) in TV payments and the remaining six broadcasted games will earn clubs £21,500 ($27,900) (HERALD SCOTLAND, 7/3).
