Olympic Notes: No Special Ceremony For Ennis-Hill At IAAF World Championships

Hopes that Jessica Ennis-Hill would receive the medal that she was "cheated out of by a doping Russian athlete" at a special ceremony at the World Athletics Championships in London in August are "set to be dashed." The IOC "confirmed that legal action by Russian athletes against being stripped of their medals is continuing." However, the British men's 4x400m relay team will be awarded the Olympic Bronze from the 2008 Beijing Games (LONDON TIMES, 6/21).

A feasibility study exploring a possible Innsbruck bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics "painted a positive picture with a referendum on the plans now looking likely." The results of the study were presented at a press conference in the Austrian city on Wednesday where plans for the potential bid were outlined. It is claimed that "no permanent new buildings would be required" (INSIDE THE GAMES, 6/21).

A top U.S. Olympic Committee official "welcomed the prospect of the 2024 and 2028 Games being awarded simultaneously," which would "all but guarantee" L.A. as one of the hosts. Earlier this month, the IOC's exec board recommended hosting rights for both Games be awarded at the same time. L.A. and Paris are the only two cities currently bidding for '24 (REUTERS, 6/21).
