Media Notes: Opening EFL Matches To Be Streamed Live On IFollow

The opening matches of the English Football League season will be available worldwide for the first time through EFL digital streaming platform iFollow. Launched for the '17-18 season, more than 1 million people have already visited the iFollow club platforms ahead of the new campaign. More than 1,500 matches will be available in HD this season across the iFollow network or comparative club service. Subscribers will pay the equivalent of £110 ($139) per season for the service (EFL).

Spanish broadcasters Movistar, Mediaset, TVE, Atresmedia, Mediapro and TV3 presented offers to carry the Champions League from '18-19 through '20-21. UEFA will negotiate individually with each bidder "and is looking to secure more than €200M ($223M), 30% more than it earned from the previous contract" (EL PAÍS, 6/20).

Telemundo is reporting record broadcast numbers on its digital platforms for its coverage of the 2017 Confederations Cup from Russia. Nielsen ratings reported the Portugal vs. Mexico match reached 4 million total viewers on Telemundo and ranks as the "most streamed match ever on Telemundo’s digital platforms." Last weekend, it reached 5.3 million total viewers across the first three matches -- Russia vs. New Zealand, Portugal vs. Mexico, and Cameroon vs. Chile (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 6/21).

Econet Media sports content platform Kwesé Sports signed a four-year deal with UEFA to broadcast Euro 2020 as well as the preceding qualifiers in all sub-Saharan African countries excluding South Africa (BIZ TECH AFRICA, 6/21).

The Champions League of Darts will be broadcast live on the BBC until '19 under a new deal with the Professional Darts Corp. (BBC).
