Franchise Notes: American Nigel Travis Close To Leyton Orient Takeover Deal

The National League side Leyton Orient takeover, which will end the "disastrous three-year reign" of Owner Francesco Becchetti, is "inching" toward completion. The process has been "slow and torturous" but a consortium involving "life-long" club fan and Boston-based businessman Nigel Travis is understood to be "very close to a deal." Travis, born in East London, is the CEO of Dunkin' Brands Group, which includes Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins (London DAILY MAIL, 6/20).

Pro12 side Newport Gwent Dragons has been rebranded as "Dragons" as the Welsh Rugby Union "prepares to take control of the regional club." The WRU will officially assume responsibilities from July 1, with Irishman Bernard Jackman last week appointed head coach. Dragons announced "advanced plans" are already in place to improve facilities at Rodney Parade (PA, 6/20)
