World No. 1 ANDY MURRAY is "planning to donate his entire prize money" from the Queen's Club Championships this week to the families who lost everything in the Grenfell Tower disaster, according to Oliver Brown of the London TELEGRAPH. It is understood that he will "hand over" his check "to the victims of one of Britain’s worst peacetime fires, in which at least 79 people are known to have died." As is "customary for Murray, he seeks no publicity for the gesture." The Grenfell tragedy "affected him deeply, to the point where he intends to use his appearance at Queen's" -- which is just two miles from the tower block -- to contribute to the relief effort. It is not the first time Murray has "turned this spectacle into a platform for charitable endeavour." In '13, he donated his Queen’s winnings to the Royal Marsden Hospital, where his friend ROSS HUTCHINS "was then being treated for cancer" (TELEGRAPH, 6/19). In London, Paul Newman reported the tournament is also said to be "preparing to make a significant donation following last week's fire at the London tower block" (INDEPENDENT, 6/19). Also in London, Kevin Mitchell reported Murray joins Arsenal defender HÉCTOR BELLERÍN, who said on Saturday that he would give £50 ($63) to the fund "for every minute he plays" at the Euro U21 Championship in Poland. If Spain, the tournament favorite, reaches the final, it will have played five matches and Bellerin’s contribution "could be as high" as £22,500 ($28,400). Man City midfielder RAHEEM STERLING also promised to give "a substantial sum." Ascot Racecourse is making a donation of £100,000 ($126,260) to The British Red Cross UK Solidarity and London Fire Relief Funds and Local Charities, "to support those affected" (GUARDIAN, 6/19).
