Sky Deutschland To Terminate Sport1 US HD At End Of June

German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland "will terminate distribution" of Sport1 US HD, the channel for the fans of U.S. sports, on its platform on June 30, according to Jörn Krieger of BROADBAND TV NEWS. A Sky Deutschland spokesperson said, "We regularly analyze and evaluate our partner channel portfolio regarding different quantity and quality-based aspects. Sky Deutschland and Sport1 have agreed not to extend carriage of the channel Sport1 US HD beyond June 30, 2017." The spokesperson "stressed" that sister channel Sport1+ HD will not "be affected and will continue to remain part of the Sky Deutschland platform." Sport1 US HD launched in Aug. '13 and was prompted by ESPN America's pull-out of Europe in July '13 (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 6/14).
